How to Beat the First Boss in Necesse

How to Beat the First Boss in Necesse

Necesse isn’t a game that puts a lot of emphasis on progression, only giving the player one quest at a time to urge them forward. It prefers to give players freedom in how they want to play the game and gives them the tools to do everything they want to do.

One of the main signifiers of progression within the game are the bosses that the player needs to fight against. These bosses can be fought multiple times and give good drops for the player that can’t be obtained in any other way. The first boss that players need to fight is Evil’s Protector.

Evil’s Protector is a large flying creature that only appears at night and flees at the first sign of daylight. Players can summon this boss by using a Mysterious Portal.

This item can be obtained as drops from different mobs in the underground area, as well as the mobs that spawn at night on the surface. It can also be obtained from the chests found in forest caves. After defeating the boss the first time, players can craft this item if they want to challenge the boss again.

How to Beat Evil’s Protector in Necesse

Evil’s Protector doesn’t have distinct phases that it switches between, but it does unlock new attacks once the player whittles its HP down to a certain amount.

  • Initially, it will only attack the player after a fixed interval by firing three fireballs in a cone that expands. These can easily be dodged if the player sticks close to the enemy and keeps moving around the boss.
  • After its HP is reduced to roughly 2/3rd the original amount, it will fly into the sky and start firing fireballs at the ground. Players can tell where these fireballs will land by the small red dot on the ground, making them fairly easy to dodge. When the boss comes back down, it will continue the same attack pattern, and in addition, will start shooting honing bullets that will chase after the player for quite a while.

The boss spawns two portals nearby that transport minions to the over world every few seconds. Players should destroy them, so their attention doesn’t get diverted at a critical point.

  • Once the player reduces its HP to 1/3rd the original amount, it will unlock a powerful ability, spitting out 16 fireballs one after the other in a circular area around it. These can be avoided if the player dashes faster than the circle spreads, or if they fall back and get in between two fireballs.

The boss will continue this pattern until it is killed, gaining more speed as more time passes. If the player is unable to kill it by dawn, it will flee, returning with a full HP bar when summoned again.

Drops from Evil’s Protector in Necesse

drops from evil's protector in necesse

Evil’s Protector will drop a Demon Heart, but only when it is killed for the first time. Afterward, it will only drop one of four foci trinkets, 12 Demonic Bars, and one Force of Wind.

If you combine all four foci, you can get the balanced focus, which increases all damage dealt by 15%.

The Demonic Bars can be used to upgrade a workbench into a Demonic Workbench, and an Anvil to a Demonic Anvil. These two crafting stations will let the player craft more advanced gear, preparing them for the next stage of the game.
