Summary

  • Genshin Impact saw a 118% revenue increase in January, generating over $99 million.
  • The update introduced two new five-star characters, Mavuika and Clorinde, in the first banner cycle.
  • HoYoverse’s decision to include two five-star characters in the same update did not negatively impact sales.

Genshin Impact‘s recent revenue reports show that HoYoverse’s most popular title performed exceptionally well in sales in January, doubling its numbers from the previous month. Genshin Impact has a gacha-based system, meaning that while the game is generally free-to-play, players can also spend real money to pull on various limited banners.

Every Genshin Impact update features at least two banner cycles, each offering two five-star characters and a four-star lineup consisting of three playable units. The first part of the update introduced two new roster additions: the popular Pyro Archon, Mavuika, and Natlan’s famous fortune-teller, Citlali.

A new post shared by Reddit user PusheenMaster includes a chart ranking popular mobile games by the revenue they generated in January 2025. The data, sourced from Sensor Tower, a credible business site, reveals that Genshin Impact secured the top spot in mobile revenue for the previous month. According to the chart, Genshin Impact generated over $99 million, marking a 118% increase from December’s sales. There are likely several reasons behind Genshin Impact‘s January success, but the two main factors are probably the presence of two banner cycles and the introduction of a new Archon in the first phase. The first part of Genshin Impact Version 5.3 launched on January 1st, bringing one of the most highly anticipated characters to the game: the Pyro Archon, Mavuika.

Genshin Impact Tops Mobile Revenue Charts for January

Genshin Impact‘s main storyline has always been told through the game’s Archon Chapters, which place The Seven in the spotlight. Natlan’s leader, Mavuika, had one of the most well-received arcs in Genshin Impact and is widely considered one of the most powerful characters in the game. Like all previously released Archons, Mavuika’s strength lies in her ability to adapt to various team compositions.

Many fans were surprised that HoYoverse placed both Mavuika and Citlali in the same Genshin Impact banner cycle, as they are the only two five-star additions in the current update. Typically, when two new five-star characters arrive in the same update, Genshin Impact spreads its releases over two banner cycles. However, the recent revenue reports suggest that this decision did not have a significant negative impact on HoYoverse’s sales.

The second part of Genshin Impact Version 5.3 also featured two highly popular Fontaine characters: the Fatui Harbinger, Arlecchino, and the Champion Duelist, Clorinde. Arlecchino has been one of the most popular characters introduced in Fontaine, alongside Furina and Neuvillette. Since this is her first rerun, many players likely decided to pull for her. Both Arlecchino and Clorinde have the unique Bond of Life mechanic incorporated into their kits, a feature exclusive to only a few Fontaine characters in Genshin Impact.
