Baldur’s Gate 3 has its fair share of annoying things – the party getting separated for no apparent reason, Shadowheart constantly missing attacks, Wulbren. When it comes to combat, though, there are few things more annoying than enemies that go invisible. However, they can be easily countered with the See Invisibility spell or potion… except it NEVER WORKS!

Baldur’s Gate 3 took 2023 and 2024 by storm, but who will take the crown this year?

How many times have you decided to use See Invisibility, only for it to have no effect? It turns out you’re not alone and your game’s not bugged. It seems everyone and their grandmother has high enough dexterity to counter See Invisibility, making it one of the most useless spells in the game.

See Invisibility Almost Never Works

The Baldur’s Gate 3 community seems to be quite annoyed at how terrible this spell is at doing the one thing it’s supposed to. So much so that it has become meme material on the BG3 subreddit, thanks to CrossENT. While the post itself is about the eye that Volo gives you and Faerie Fire, which allow you to see invisible objects, the comments brought in See Invisibility as a major culprit as well.

“Worst part is that it’s dexterity saving throw so the one stat Bhaal’s assassins have high points in,” mentioned one comment, further proving how useless the spell is, as the Bhaalist Assassins use invisibility the most. “And many others. High dex saving is one of the most common saving throws for enemies to have,” added another.

Fans started giving alternate solutions, like Create Water or throwing a bottle of water in the vicinity to spot invisible enemies. One comment even mentioned potential pathing, where the game will preview your character’s movement going around a seemingly invisible object. Of course, you could also just Fireball the entire area and be done with it.

Earlier, you could simply use ping to detect the location of invisible characters, but Larian seems to have patched that out. Rightfully so, as it would have made invisibility absolutely pointless. However, it seems the devs are quite content with letting See Invisibility be absolutely pointless.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is the long-awaited next chapter in the Dungeons & Dragons-based series of RPGs. Developed by Divinity creator Larian Studios, it puts you in the middle of a mind flayer invasion of Faerûn, over a century after the events of its predecessor.
