On January 31, Blizzard announced that World of Warcraft players who play Plunderstorm can earn new rewards simply by participating in the battle royale game mode and collecting Plunder. However, the rewards are a one-time redemption per World of Warcraft account, and can only be traded in for two types of Warbound chests that contain random pieces of gear.
Following a successful first season during Dragonflight‘s 10.2.6 update, Plunderstorm was brought back for a second run on January 14, just a week after World of Warcraft concluded its 20th-anniversary celebration event. Plunderstorm is a 60-player battle royale game mode that pits players in a pirate-themed brawl in the Arathi Basin, with solo, duo, and trio player queues as available options. For Plunderstorm’s second season, World of Warcraft introduced the Plunderstore to give players a straightforward way to spend their Plunder earned in-game on cosmetic rewards such as weapons, mounts, and companion pets.

As players enjoy the new abilities and items from Plunderstorm’s second run, Blizzard revealed that dedicated players should check their in-game mailboxes. According to a Blizzard forum post by community manager Kaivax, a new Plunderstorm reward was implemented at approximately 1:00 PM Eastern on January 31 that will grant players who have accumulated 5,000 Plunder a Storm-Singed Plunder chest. This reward will also be given to World of Warcraft players who earn 5,000 Plunder after the fact, but the reward is limited to one redemption per player account. The Storm-Singed Plunder chest contains two Keg-Leg’s Bronze Spoils and one Keg-Leg’s Silver Spoils, tokens that can be traded by speaking to an Orcish NPC named Da’kesh Grimledger. He can be found in Dornogal’s Forgegrounds, in the southern half of The War Within‘s main hub city.
World of Warcraft Offers New, One-Time Plunderstorm Rewards
- World of Warcraft will mail players who collect 5,000 Plunder a Storm-Singed Plunder chest.
- This reward is only available on the retail version of World of Warcraft.
- The Storm-Singed Plunder contains tokens that can be traded for Warbound chests containing random pieces of gear.
- The reward is limited to one redemption per player account.
Players can trade Keg-Leg’s Bronze Spoils for a Swabbie’s Lockbox, which grants a random piece of Uncommon gear when opened. Keg-Leg’s Silver Spoils can be traded for a Pirate’s Booty chest, which contains a piece of Heroic item level 610 gear from The War Within‘s current raid, the Nerub’ar Palace. Both chests are Warbound, meaning players can use them on any character on the same World of Warcraft account. Additionally, players can quickly earn the 5,000 Plunder needed for these rewards by completing the Captain’s Orders daily quest in Plunderstorm, which can give 1,000 Plunder for fulfilling random tasks.
It is unclear if the rewards will only be available until the Plunderstorm event ends, so World of Warcraft players may not have long to claim their new reward. With Patch 11.1 in active development on the public test realms, it remains to be seen what else Blizzard has in store.
