Blood Blockade Battlefront is written and illustrated by Yasuhiro Nightrow. Initially, he published a one-shot in Jump Square in 2008, and it had a small cast and a different focus on the narrative. After a few more chapters, the series was moved to Jump SQ.19, where it continued to serialize until February 2015.
Dark Horse Comics previously released the ten volumes of Blood Blockade Battlefront from 2011 to 2018. Fans who have not purchased the original volumes will certainly be tempted to purchase the omnibus editions. The release of the other volumes will likely be announced after the first volume is available worldwide.
Blood Blockade Battlefront’s anime adaptation was announced in May 2014, but it did not air until April 2015. Studio Bones was responsible for producing the anime. The first season of the anime had 12 episodes, and the second season had a similar episode count.

The anime had 24 episodes, and they aired from April 1 to September 1998.
A second anime adaptation by Orange aired in January 2023. The adaptation was polarizing, with some viewers rebuking it for straying from the old animation style. Currently, a new project called Trigun Stargaze is in production. The anime’s release date is unknown.
