With The Sims 4 now more than a decade old, it feels like there’s certainly space for challengers in the life game space. While 2024 saw the cancellation of promising rival Life By You, I’m looking forward to upcoming games such as InZOI and Paralives this year. But out right now is My Little Life, a new life sim with a unique twist. Built to fit neatly at the bottom of your screen, it’s designed to keep running while you go about the rest of your day, and you can get it on Steam at a bargain price, with a bonus launch sale if you’re quick.
My Little Life comes from indie developer Stevis Andrea and 9FingerGames, and it revolves around that satisfying feeling of watching your virtual avatar’s journey that makes the best games like The Sims tick. Starting from their early days in a messy, cramped apartment, you’ll help them find a job, earn a living, and begin expanding and decorating their house. As things progress, more people can join your community.
Where My Little Life stands out is in its clever layout. Rather than taking up your full monitor, your house is laid out along the bottom of the screen, much like the delightful 2024 release Rusty’s Retirement. If you feel the modern urge to multitask at all times the way I do, that makes My Little Life a perfect addition to your day. Don’t like the horizontal layout? You can opt for a high-rise vertical house instead that sits down one side of your display.
Designed to be non-intrusive, you won’t be constantly pestered by loud notifications, and your digital denizens won’t demand constant attention to tell them what to do. You’re welcome to direct and manage them as you wish, but left to their own devices they’ll go about their day, living their life and earning credits (for working) and fulfillment points (for satisfying their hopes and dreams). You can then spend these to build, expand, and decorate their home.
With more than eight careers to pursue, 1,000 different items to unlock, and the ability to have up to 10 people hanging out in your pad, there’s certainly a lot on offer. Even better, if you’re eyeing up something to scratch the life sim itch while we await the InZOI release date, you can snag My Little Life at the low price of $6, meaning it won’t break the bank – and it’s even less right now in a Steam sale, so get it while you can.
My Little Life is out now on Steam, with a 10% launch discount available through Friday February 7. Expect to pay $5.39 / £4.49 if you get it during the sale period, or $5.99 / £4.99 afterwards. Head here to take a look for yourself.
