Rainbow Six Siege can be a pretty intimidating game to get into. However, that shouldn’t dissuade newcomers from at least giving it a go, especially since plenty of operators can help make the experience feel much more comfortable due to how beginner-friendly they are in their design and abilities. By choosing one of these characters, players can support their team and score a few kills without needing to be a tactical mastermind who knows every map like the back of their hand.

Rainbow Six Siege: The 24 Most Powerful Weapons, Ranked

In stark contrast, these operators are usable on pretty much every map in the game and are incredibly easy to pick up and play. With Siege reaching its 10th anniversary, and there now being 70+ operators in the cast, it’s time to take a look at the characters that do the best job at familiarizing new players with the core gameplay and mechanics of Rainbow Six Siege – the immensely popular tactical shooter.

Sledge
This Intimidating Powerhouse Can Make Breaching Easy For Beginner Players
- Speed: 2
- Health: 2
- Gadget: Sledgehammer
Sledge’s unique operator ability is probably the easiest to use in the game, yet it still manages to be extremely effective. The ability in question is the sledgehammer; Sledge’s trusty weapon that he can use for breaking down soft walls, which means any walls that have not been reinforced.
Sledge can therefore navigate around maps much easier than a lot of attackers, and when creeping up to a point, he can begin breaking down the site wall by wall, without the player needing to rush in head-first. The sledgehammer can also be useful for actually getting to the point, since players can knock down pretty much any wall on the map, meaning if they get lost, one swing can allow them to make their own pathway.

Zero
By Choosing Zero, Players Can Get An Idea Of Where The Enemy Team Is Before Planning Their Attack
- Speed: 3
- Health: 1
- Gadget: ARGUS Launcher
Zero is Siege’s version of Sam Fisher, the main protagonist of the Splinter Cell series, so it only makes sense that he would be a more stealth-based operator. As part of his sneaky kit, Zero has ARGUS cameras that he can throw out. Once these cameras stick to a wall, they can then reveal who’s on the other side. Simply put, if you fire a camera on the wall of the bomb site, you can then take a peek inside to scope out the defenders, giving you and your team time to plan your attack.

There’s a plethora of Elite skins in Rainbow Six Siege that players can acquire, but from a visual standpoint, these are among some of the very best.
Players will even be able to control the cameras after Zero dies, making him a valuable asset to the team who can reveal enemy positions quickly and easily. Zero also comes with claymores, which can be useful for keeping flankers at bay, and his GONNE6 shotgun can tear a few holes in soft walls if players want to get a little creative with their attack strategy.

Lion
An Incredibly Strong Attacker Who Can Reveal Enemy Positions With The Click Of A Button
- Speed: 2
- Health: 2
- Gadget: EE-ONE-D
No operator has been buffed, nerfed, and tinkered with in Siege quite as much as Lion, and it’s all because of his gadget: the EE-ONE-D. The way it works is, that once players activate the drone, a countdown will start ticking down from 3 to 0. Once it finishes, any defenders who are moving will be pinged for all the attackers to see, and Lion gets three of these to use every single round.
It’s honestly very hard to go wrong when deploying this ability, but it’s best used during firefights where the enemy is constantly trying to move around and flank the attackers. It can even be useful at the very beginning of a round to prevent spawn-peekers, considering they’ll be found out as soon as they start to approach a window. This ability may have once been absurdly broken, but it’s now in a good place where it’s still powerful, but far from game-breaking, with Lion being a pretty simple operator to use when all is said and done.
5
Buck
Buck Is A Fast And Deadly Attacker Who Relies On His Skeleton Key To Get The Job Done
- Speed: 2
- Health: 2
- Gadget: Skeleton Key
Buck’s primary gimmick is that his assault rifle is attached to an underbarrel shotgun known as the Skeleton Key. While this boomstick can be used to blow away any enemies who get a little too close for comfort, it’s most useful for breaking down soft walls, kind of like Sledge can do with his hammer.
The best part about this is Buck can switch between his primary fire and the shotgun in the blink of an eye, allowing players to blow a hole in the wall before then spraying down any enemies in their sights with their main rounds. The shotgun can also destroy hatches, allowing Buck players to move around the map vertically if they want to get the drop on the opposing team without them even suspecting a thing.

Kapkan
Set Up Traps, Sit By, And Let The Explosives Work Their Magic
- Speed: 2
- Health: 2
- Gadget: Entry Denial Device
While there are multiple trap defenders in Siege, by far the easiest to use, and the best for getting accustomed to this kind of defensive playstyle, is Kapkan. This guy starts the rounds with multiple explosive bombs which he can attach to doors and windows, meaning as soon as they are activated, players can focus on snooping out attackers while their explosives do the rest of the work.

The Operation Collision Point expansion for Rainbow Six Siege has arrived. Here are the best Operators to play as in it.
Kapkan is also a great operator for beginners because he allows them to gradually become more confident in how they play. While it’s advised to start off by attaching his bombs around the site, players can then get more experimental and start dotting them around other common entryways and openings to catch attackers off guard. Pair all this with his laser-accurate 9X19 assault rifle and it makes for an easy operator to pick up and play for players who aren’t too familiar with the game’s core mechanics.
3
Rook
- Speed: 1
- Health: 2
- Gadget: Armor Pack
Rook’s ability is simple; he can put down a set of armor at the beginning of a round that he, and all of his defender teammates, can pick up. That’s really all there is to him, but while the ability seems simple, many players will be more than happy having a Rook on their team considering this is a game where every hitpoint counts.
Additionally, Rook can be a good defender for any beginners who want to start familiarizing themselves with the ‘anchor’ style of play, which involves hunkering down on the point and providing a line of defense against the attackers. His P90, while a little recoil-heavy, can spit out tons of damage when up close, making Rook a real force to be reckoned with, even in the hands of beginners.
2
Thunderbird
Thunderbird’s Healing Capabilities Make Her A Valuable Ally Who Is Easy To Play
- Speed: 2
- Health: 2
- Gadget: Kona Station
Thunderbird is an operator who was introduced in year 6 of the game, making her a much more recent addition compared to many of the operators on this list. While Ubisoft tends to get more complex with each new operator, Thunderbird is a little different as she is instead an easy-to-play healer operator who can place down multiple devices at the beginning of a round which will provide HP for her allies as the match goes on.
That’s not all though, as these little machines can even revive a downed teammate, meaning so long as players scatter them around the site, they will automatically be providing support for their allies without even needing to lift a finger. The only downside to Thunderbird is that enemies can also be healed by her gadgets, so it can be good to get into the practice of shooting them if the attackers swoop into the point too quickly.
1
Melusi
Melusi Can Alert Her Whole Team To An Enemy’s Whereabouts With Her Banshee Device
- Speed: 1
- Health: 3
- Gadget: Banshee Sonic Defense
Melusi is one of the easiest defenders to use since her gadget, the Banshees, will operate automatically without her needing to take control of them. To clarify, the Banshees are small devices that can be stuck onto walls, floors, and ceilings. When an enemy walks by, the Banshee will emit a sound wave that not only slows down their movement but also alerts the rest of Melusi’s team to their position.
So long as players place each of their Banshees at the beginning of the round so that they can block most entryways, they will be providing some much-needed defense for their teammates. If Melusi falls in battle, the Banshees will still continue to work their magic, and since they’re bulletproof, it forces enemies to either deal with them or find another way into the site, which can cost them valuable time.
