Summary
- The biggest discourse in the Marvel’s Spider-Man community has to do with Peter Parker’s replaced face model.
- Fans have previously modded John Bubniak’s face back into Spider-Man, and it’s already happened for the sequel.
- The current mod is a little uncanny valley and has wide-open eyes, but it’s impressive considering it’s only been two days.
Spider-Man 2 only just released on Steam a few days ago and there’s already a mod that replaces Peter’s controversial new face model with John Bubniak from the original PS4 release.
Despite being a trilogy of legitimately great games (yes, even the most recent one that weirdly gets a ton of hate), there’s a surprising amount of discourse in the Marvel’s Spider-Man community. Whether its puddlegate, the extreme annoyance surrounding Spider-Man’s suits, or the playable MJ sections, players have a lot to complain about.

Spider-Man doesn’t need a CEO to mentor him, Uncle Ben is more than enough.
Perhaps the biggest source of controversy for Marvel’s Spider-Man, though, is when Insomniac replaced Peter Parker’s face after the first game released. When Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Miles Morales rolled around, the original face model, John Bubniak, was taken over by Ben Jordan so that he’d better fit the game’s improved motion capture.
Peter Parker Already Has His Original Face Back In Spider-Man 2
That reason has never gone down well with fans, who not only think that it’s simply to make Peter look younger to match the MCU’s Tom Holland but also vastly prefer his original look. As such, every Spider-Man game on PC has a mod that replaces Ben Jordan with John Bubniak, something that can already be said about Spider-Man 2.
Just two days ago, Insomniac Games finally released Spider-Man 2 on Steam, which opened the modding doors completely open. Despite the Steam launch being pretty rough and the game currently sitting at a “Mixed” rating, there are already a ton of mods for the game, including one that replaces Ben Jordan’s face with John Bubniak.
The mod, which was made by CarlosRPG5555 and is fittingly titled “John Bubniak’s Face Over Ben Jordan Face”, does exactly what it says on the tin and gives Peter Parker his original PS4 face back. We’ve seen this mod before, but it is a little more impressive this time around since Ben Jordan was the primary face and Bubniak had no involvement in recording motion capture for Spider-Man 2.
That being said, the mod is still in a very early state and does have some kinks that need to be worked out. The most notable issue, and one that’s pointed out by CarlosRPG5555 themselves, is that Peter doesn’t know how to close his eyes properly with his old face. You can see from the screenshots that it’s a little uncanny valley.
Still, considering the fact that it’s only been two days since Spider-Man 2 launched on Steam, it’s pretty impressive and telling of how the community still views the face change that there’s already a mod for it. CarlosRPG5555 has confirmed that more updates are coming, so it might eventually be a little less scary to look at.
