Summary
- Path of Exile 2 should consider adding Destiny 2’s Exotic class items for more powerful and interesting builds.
- Dual-perk Unique Items could significantly increase build diversity in Path of Exile 2.
- Introducing combined Uniques into the game may revitalize some Unique Items that are currently subpar.
It has been almost two months since Path of Exile 2 first launched in early access, and so far, the game is already in a good state overall. It’s very likely that GGG will keep polishing and updating the game as the months go by, possibly even releasing a new League with an economy refresh for all players to join, and the next update may be a few weeks away. Although the game already has more pressing things to tackle, there is a new addition that Path of Exile 2 could benefit from, and it would be an interesting feature Destiny 2 included in its The Final Shape expansion.
Destiny 2 and Path of Exile 2 are arguably very different titles, but they do share looter elements that influence both what kind of items players can find and how impactful these can be in a given build. Path of Exile 2‘s Unique Items are not dissimilar from Destiny 2‘s Exotics in terms of concept, though the former doesn’t have a limit on how many Unique Items can be included in a build, whereas the latter limits Exotics to one weapon and one armor piece. In The Final Shape, Destiny 2 added Exotic class items that combine the effect of two Exotics into one, which is a powerful and interesting feature Path of Exile 2 could benefit from.

Why Path of Exile 2 Should Add Destiny 2’s Exotic Class Items
Destiny 2‘s Exotic class items became very popular when they came out, and that’s because the limit of one Exotic armor piece can make these two-in-one items very strong. The concept is fairly simple, as the Exotic class items take one or more parts of a given Exotic’s perks and combine them with a different Exotic’s perks. This could work very well in Path of Exile 2, but it would need to be adapted carefully.
Considering that Path of Exile 2‘s Unique Items are not limited to one overall, but rather, players can use all Uniques they want, this system should have both pros and cons. There are many ways to go about this:
- Path of Exile 2 builds could be limited to one Unique Item that combines different Uniques into one, making it more difficult to abuse the feature
- Unique Items combined into one could have some limitations, like only merging the effects of two items from the same slot or taking specific item slots, like Amulet, Ring, or Belt
- Another option could be to make these items have hefty requirements, ranging from high attributes to even making them class-specific
How Dual-Perk Unique Items Could Work in Path of Exile 2
Overall, there is a good chance that introducing this concept into the game could work in some way, and it would be interesting for a few reasons. One of them would be build diversity, as the options could be near-endless based on how these items would work. A lot of Uniques are considered subpar in the game, and they can easily be overshadowed by Rares in Path of Exile 2‘s endgame, but combining two existing Uniques into one could create some powerful and interesting items.
It remains to be seen whether GGG will adopt this idea for its ARPG, especially since buffing existing Unique Items could be the better option for making them more interesting to play at all levels. However, combining two Uniques into one could make for some interesting combinations that wouldn’t normally be possible if both items were originally in the same slot. The only cases where one can duplicate the effects of an existing Unique or using Uniques from the same slot are when dual-wielding or when using Rings. Still, Destiny 2‘s The Final Shape expansion made Exotic class items a great choice for many builds, and it’s plausible that Path of Exile 2 would find further success with a similar idea.
