Blizzard has confirmed that Overwatch 2 will be removing the Clash game mode from Competitive Play with the start of Season 15. Overwatch 2 is currently in the midst of Season 14, but the hero shooter is already looking ahead to Season 15 and beyond.
Overwatch 2 is currently experiencing its stiffest competition yet in the form of Marvel Rivals, a new free-to-play hero shooter that has proven to be hugely popular. Marvel Rivals‘ surge in popularity has seen a response from Blizzard, with the company promising a big spotlight event for Overwatch 2 on February 12 that will give fans a look at upcoming heroes, maps, and “groundbreaking” PvP changes. Time will tell exactly what all the Overwatch 2 Spotlight event on February 12 will have in store, but in the meantime, Blizzard has given fans an idea of what to expect from Season 15.

It’s been confirmed by Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller that the Clash game mode is being removed from Competitive play. Clash, which features maps themed after the Assault maps that were removed from both Quick Play and Competitive years ago, “has a few problems,” according to Blizzard. It seems Clash matches have steamrolls that lead to matches ending “much faster” than a typical Overwatch match, and some players have voiced confusion over which point is active. Due to these concerns, Blizzard is removing Clash from Overwatch 2 Competitive Play once Season 15 starts on February 18 to “take the time to look at these maps.” The mode will remain available in Quick Play and other game modes.
Overwatch 2 is Removing Clash from Competitive Play
Personally, I have never had any problems with Clash in Overwatch 2. And while there have certainly been times when my team has been steamrolled and the match ended quickly, I look at that as a good thing. Getting a steamroll over with quickly in Overwatch 2 Competitive Play is better than prolonging the inevitable in longer game modes.
Overwatch 2 Season 15 is expected to start on Tuesday, February 18.
If I were to pick any game mode to be removed from Overwatch 2 Competitive Play, it would be Flashpoint. I’ve been mixed on Flashpoint ever since the mode was added to Overwatch 2, and while things like the spawn speed boosts have made it more tolerable, it remains my least favorite match type in the hero shooter. That being said, my ideal scenario would see no game modes or matches removed from Overwatch 2, even the Assault maps. The variety keeps longer game sessions more interesting, and makes it worth putting up with the potential frustrations some of the modes deliver, in my opinion.
