After months of struggling and a dwindling player count that wasn’t looking like it could be revived even if we had got icons like Ben 10 and Daffy Duck, yesterday’s news that MultiVersus will be ending with Season 5 and going offline didn’t come as much of a shock to anyone. Even the biggest fans of the game seemed to know it was coming, even if they’re not happy about it.

MultiVersus was once my favourite live-service game, but its demise was simply inevitable.
With Lola Bunny and Aquaman acting as the end of MultiVersus’ crossover shenanigans, there are a lot of questions about the game left unanswered. Beyond wanting to know who else was in the pipeline for the game if it had continued, one of the biggest is what Warner Bros. is going to do with its properties next.
MultiVersus Is Apparently To Blame For Fortnite’s Lack Of Warner Bros. Crossovers
Well, it seems very likely that it’s going to be looking into joining games like Fortnite more frequently. Years ago, Warner Bros. and DC had a good relationship with Epic and started taking part in a lot of crossovers with them, but that eventually started drying up. It’s never been completely clear why, but a lot of fans theorised that it was due to MultiVersus.
According to reliable Fortnite insider ShiinaBR, that’s exactly the case. The leaker took to Twitter after the news of MultiVersus dying got announced and revealed that they’d already been told about it before the rumours started spreading. They also said that MultiVersus “indeed caused the halt of DC collabs”.
If true, this is a very strange business tactic from Warner Bros. – it’s not like Fortnite and MultiVersus were in direct competition or anything.
ShiinaBR says that Warner Bros. is now going to double down on crossovers with other games now that its own attempt has been put to rest, which includes Fortnite. If the company has known for some time that MultiVersus wouldn’t last, that does explain the recent resurgence of DC skins in the Item Shop.
We’ll have to wait and see what other Warner Bros. content ends up coming to Fortnite in the future if this rumour is true, but take it from a MultiVersus fan – you probably can’t count on holding onto whatever you buy for too long.
