Yolvan is one of the early game bosses that you can encounter in the Land of Fumes, and defeating him is required to progress the main story. Fighting against Yolvan can be tough, as he’s the first boss in the game with two phases, but if you manage to avoid some of its annoying attacks, you can easily beat it in no time.

How To Find Yolvan

The image shows Yolvan's boss arena's location on the map in Ender Magnolia: Bloom In The Mist.

Yolvan can be found in the Old City – Lower Stratum area, near the locked gate. As you progress in this area, you will eventually come across a section where there’s a red locked door to the right and the Clock Tower Palace – Entrance Respite, locked behind another door on the left.

You’ll find several mutated enemies in this area, and to progress to the Respite, you will first have to go right towards the locked gate. From there, you will have to jump on the platforms and move towards the left, where you’ll find an opening to reach the Respite and also a switch to unlock the door to the Respite room.

Just above a platform near the red locked gate to the right of the area, you’ll find the Sanguinary Raven Relic. This item increases aerial attack damage by ten percent when equipped, allowing you to deal increased damage to airborne enemies with aerial attacks, and will be exceptionally useful in your upcoming fight against Yolvan.

Rest at the Respite and head left. You’ll enter Yolvan’s boss arena and will be able to fight against him.

How To Defeat Yolvan, The Black-Winged Huntsman

Yolvan relies on being airborne and uses a variety of ranged attacks. These ranged attacks are fairly easy to avoid if you can recognize when it’s coming. Since Yolvan is flying from one place to the other all the time, you will have to use jump attacks and jump dashes to reach him.

Yolvan’s Attacks

Attack Name

Attack Description

How To Avoid

3-Shot Bullets

Yolvan will use one of his magic pistols to shoot three small projectile bullets in your direction one after the other.

This is easily the most annoying attack to avoid, because sometimes the angle of the bullets is so bad that a single dodge isn’t enough to avoid all three bullets completely. You have to watch for where Yolvan is shooting from. If he’s near you, or at mid-range, you can dodge towards him to avoid the bullets. However, if he’s far off towards the edge and close to the ground when he uses this attack, it is better to jump and dash in mid-air, which will allow you to avoid all the bullets.

1-Shot Impact

The boss will shoot a single slightly bigger projectile in your direction.

You can easily avoid this attack by dashing in any direction.

Bullet Spam

The boss will teleport to one of the edges of the screen, and dash towards the other end while shooting bullets at the ground.

Dash in the direction he’s coming from, and you’ll easily pass through all the bullets without getting hit.

By this point in the game, you will have Nola’s melee and Lito’s long-range attack. Use double jumps and dashes to get close to Yolvan in mid-air, and then use Nola’s melee attacks to damage him. You can also use Lito’s ranged attack if Yolvan is too far out of range.

If you fill the boss’ break gauge, he will fall to the ground and take significant fall damage, depending on the height that he fell from. His attacks are fairly easy to avoid, except for one, and you can also dodge these attacks while you’re jumping, by dashing in any direction.

Try not to get hit at all during this phase, because the second one is considerably more difficult, and you’ll need to save up your healing for that.

After you’ve brought his HP down, Yolvan will fall to the ground. The boss will then attempt to walk a little distance, before transforming into Caladrius with full HP. You can use this brief time to restore your health and to position yourself behind Caladrius so you can get a few extra attacks when he finishes transforming.

There are ten bosses in Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights. Let’s take a look at how they stack up.

How To Defeat Caladrius

While Caladrius is just a mutated version of Yolvan, you will still have to switch up your strategy as you fight against him. Caladrius hits significantly harder than in the first phase, but at least you don’t have to jump all the time to get close to him in this phase.

Caladrius Attacks

Attack Name

Attack Description

How To Avoid

Hand Swipe

Caladrius will swipe one of his arms towards the ground, dealing damage to the player if they are standing too close.

You’ll notice Caladrius’s eyes glow, and if you’re at close range to him, you can expect this attack to come out often. Hit dodge or back off slightly whenever you see his eyes glow.

Jump Smash

The boss will jump into the air, smashing the ground with one of its hands when landing.

You can spot this attack whenever you see Caladrius jump and his eyes glow in mid-air. Dash in any direction to avoid this attack.

Tri-Orb

Caladrius’s eyes will glow, and he will jump away from you. While jumping away, the boss will fire three orbs at different heights in your direction.

This attack looks difficult to avoid, but you only have to dash towards Caladrius, and you’ll be able to completely avoid this attack.

You have to try to get behind his back at all times. If you manage to catch his back, you can attack plenty of times before the boss finally turns to face you or attacks you. Don’t be afraid of his attacks, dodge towards him and keep attacking him until his HP reaches zero.

Rewards For Defeating Yolvan

The image shows Yolvan's Pressure Ability's description in Ender Magnolia: Bloom In The Mist.

After you’ve defeated Caladrius and attuned him, he will return to being Yolvan and will become one of your allies. Yolvan features incredible long-range abilities, which require you to hold a button to activate, and these abilities will remain active as long as you keep holding the button.

Furthermore, Yolvan’s ability also remains active while you walk around anywhere, jump, or dash, making it a consistent source of damage. Yolvan’s Barrage ability, which is his first ability and is already unlocked, features auto-aim capability. It lets Yolvan automatically aim at the closest threat, but deals little damage.

Yolvan’s abilities are exceptionally useful for fighting against airborne enemies, and since he uses ranged attacks, you can damage opponents with him while staying a safe distance away from them.

After defeating Yolvan, you will have to return to the Arcane Smith in the small village inside the Old Town. The Arcane Smith will give you the Lower Stratum Key, which unlocks the red locked door near the Clock Tower Palace – Entrance Respite and allows you to progress further into the game.

Talking to the Arcane Smith after defeating Yolvan will also unlock the Fast Travel ability, and Hati, the Wolf Humoncolus will join you on your journey.
