Developed by veteran studio Ubisoft Montreal, Far Cry New Dawn revolves around a group of survivors fighting against rival factions for the last bit of resources left in a post-apocalyptic world. At launch, it received overall average reviews, falling short of the positive critical reception enjoyed by its predecessor. On Twitter, Ubisoft Support’s official account unexpectedly shared the impending rollout of a 60 FPS update for Far Cry New Dawn on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Apparently, the news broke out abruptly due to the need to momentarily disable the game’s FPS Boost on the Xbox Series consoles in preparation of the performance upgrade. It was revealed that this temporary change would start on January 31, 2025, at 4PM PST or 7PM EST and would enable a “smooth roll out [sic]” for the forthcoming update. The tweet further clarified that the change would only affect Xbox users, with PlayStation users not having to jump through any hoops ahead of the 60 FPS patch. While there’s no explicit timeline for the patch’s launch so far, fans have been speculating that Ubisoft would bring an improved frame-rate to the Far Cry spin-off when it lands on Xbox Game Pass on February 4, 2025.
Far Cry New Dawn is Yet Another Old Ubisoft Game to Get a Performance Patch
Ubisoft bringing the almost six-year-old Far Cry New Dawn up to speed with the current-gen consoles isn’t a rarity, as it has previously shipped upgrades for other old games. Back in November 2024, the French game publisher delivered a 60 FPS patch for 2015’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. Ubisoft’s work on its past releases isn’t limited to performance enhancements either as, most recently, the devs added achievements to Far Cry 5 and Far Cry 6 on Steam.
Meanwhile, Ubisoft faces a difficult time as rumors of a third-party takeover grow louder each passing day. To make things worse, the Assassin’s Creed creator recently also laid off a number of its employees at the start of 2025. Given such a dire state of things, the gaming giant would hope that its forthcoming major release, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, performs well and gives a boost to the organization’s morale.
