Summary
- If there is one thing that Borderlands is known for, it’s the ridiculous amount of loot that players have access to.
- Things won’t be changing with Borderlands 4 anytime soon as Gearbox is touting “billions” of guns and accessories.
- Yes, you read that right “Billions” with an “S” at the end.
- In the past, Borderlands 2 had over 17 million guns, while Borderlands 3 reportedly had a billion.
While Borderlands as a franchise may not take its story all too seriously, given the mass amount of jokes and “toilet” humor, one thing it does take very seriously is its genre. As a looter shooter, loot is the name of the game, and the more loot the better, as the gameplay loop revolves around constantly turning good weapons into even better weapons, and few do it better than Borderlands.
To that end, Borderlands has made it a key part of its marketing strategy over the years to tout just how many weapons exist in each game. For example, Borderlands 2 held a Guinness World Record for most guns in a game for its 17.75 million weapons. Meanwhile, Borderlands 3 reportedly had over a billion guns when it launched in 2019.
And if you thought things would be any different when Borderlands 4 is set to launch later this year, then think again. If anything, things are getting even bigger.
No Such Thing As Too Many Guns
In an interview with GamesRadar+, senior project producer Anthony Nicholson shared some more details about what fans can expect out of Borderlands 4, specifically when it comes to the weapons players will have access to.
Put simply, Nicholson said this:
“Borderlands 4 will feature billions of weapons and accessories for players to acquire.”
With the series making a jump to the current-gen, it should be no surprise that the team is targeting “Billions” instead of “Millions.” That said, there could be some twists come Borderlands 4, as Nicholson noted that Gearbox is “always adding more guns, manufacturers, legendary weapons and opportunities for customization and player expression.”
It shouldn’t be too surprising that Gearbox is already beginning to tout the mass amount of weapons that will be in Borderlands 4. After all, it wouldn’t be a Borderlands game without an overwhelming amount of loot. And for longtime fans of the series, they wouldn’t have it any other way.
