Pokemon TCG Pocket fans noticed the lack of Steel-types in Genetic Apex and Mystical Island. Luckily, the Space-Time Smackdown set has plenty of additional cards that not only make Steel-types more interesting to play, but powerful enough to contend with some of the higher tier decks of the meta.

Pokemon Pocket: Best Pokemon Abilities
These Pokemon abilities have the potential to change the tide of battle.
With a focus on Sinnoh, there are some fan favorites making their appearance for the first time, from prehistoric wonders to deities of time. With great defensive powers and special interactions with Trainer cards, it’s best to take a look at the Steel-type collection to find out which ones are the hottest arrivals.

Bronzor
Starting Off Small
As part of every fresh selection of cards, you always have a group of baby Basic Pokemon. These often don’t do much on their own unless you Evolve them. Bronzor is the baby of the Steel-type Pokemon and, besides being cute, needs to get into Bronzong before it does anything worthwhile.
With 60HP and Tackle doing 30 damage for two Energy, it’s as basic as Basic Pokemon can get. Due to its type, it also doesn’t get any significant type advantage boosts unless it battles the jankiest of decks.
9
Shieldon
Prehistoric Evolution
Despite being a Stage Two Pokemon, Shieldon can be considered a baby Basic due to how it can’t do anything with its Move other than damage. 50 for two Energy is not bad considering the levels of Energy acceleration introduced in Space-Time Smackdown.

Who needs a potion when you have these extraordinary Pokemon that can heal themselves?
Shieldon is more of an investment for Bastiodon’s benefit. Luckily, it also has 100 HP, which makes up for how vulnerable this Pokemon is while still an Armor Fossil. This gives it a better ranking when compared to other barebones Pokemon in the set.
8
Registeel
Can Regis Hold Up?
Every set introduces a few Basic Pokemon that don’t Evolve but can get on the field right away. Registeel is one of those for the Steel-type roster. With 110 HP, Registeel has at least some staying power. Can it fight though?
Three Energy for 90 damage is a bit of a risk, especially with a weakness to Fire-types. However, if Dialga ex is leading the pack, then Registeel can improve in speed. This is one of those cases where the Pokemon’s effectiveness relies more on how you use it than what it can personally do.
7
Wormadam
From Grass To Steel
Like Bronzor, Wormadam also has a coin flip Move that scales depending on the number of heads you land on. What makes it better is that it has no cap on the damage it can deal while still having a base number to smack your opponent with.

That’s 30 damage for each heads you can land on. In addition to this very fun Move, this Pokemon can also change types between Evolutions. With Burmy being a Grass-type, you can turn it into a Steel-type with this Wormadam.
6
Probopass
For Fighting-type To Steel-type
Probopass may seem like an expensive card to set up, but here is what you get for your efforts. You can do up to 180 damage if you manage to get the coin flips right and a Pokemon that can switch types between Evolutions.
As a Nosepass you can hit for Fighting-type damage, then take your opponent by surprise with the closest thing to hitting them with a steel chair. This alone gives it a unique game mechanic that only a few cards can take advantage of.
5
Heatran
Steel-Type’s Arcanine
Heatran falls into the same card category as Arcanine ex from Genetic Apex. It’s a heavy hitter that also hurts itself each time it attacks. With 120 HP, this Pokemon can take a beating while needing three Energy to start swinging.

Being a Basic Pokemon makes it so it can hit the field earlier. With added Steel-type support in Space-Time Smackdown. Heatran is more than capable of being one of the strongest hitting cards in your deck if you choose to start running it.
4
Bronzong
A Good Offense And Defense
A trait that Steel-type Pokemon commonly share is protection against your opponent’s attacks. Bronzong is the Stage One Evolution of Bronzor with the Move, Guard Press. This lets you deal 60 damage for three Energy but also protects Bronzong from damage.
This effect alone puts it ahead of the other simpler Steel-type Pokemon in Space-Time Smackdown since it allows Bronzong to last longer while your opponent is smacking into it. However, this effect falls short when compared to Melmetal, which has its protection based on its Ability.
3
Bastiodon
An Iron Defense
If you’re looking for a tank of a Pokemon then Bastiodon is fantastic. With 160 HP, it has a ridiculous amount of staying power for a single-point Pokemon. Guarded Drill makes Bastiodon even more impenetrable if you land the coin flip.

If your opponent attacks Bastiodon, it forces the flip. Land on heads and 100 of that damage gets nerfed. Any damage lower than that gets snuffed out completely. This is also a unique way of stacking coin flips for your defense if you can afflict your opponent with a Status Condition as well.
2
Skarmory
The Fastest Steel-type
Skarmory is one of the fastest cards in the entire Steel-type roster. If you’re running a Steel-focused deck, then this is a must-have, especially with Pokemon Tools in the mix. This is because Skarmory can deal up to 50 damage for only one Energy.
Since Pokemon Tools can be attached as soon as turn one, Skarmory is an excellent Pokemon to use if you’re going second and want to play aggressively. This only makes landing that first coin flip on tails, all the more important if you want to blitz your opponent.
1
Dialga Ex
The Legendary Of Time Arrives
Dialga is one of the two signature Pokemon of Space-Time Smackdown. If Steel was missing anything during Pokemon TCG Pocket’s debut, Dialga answers it. It’s an ex Pokemon with high health, Energy acceleration, and heavy damage.
Metallic Turbo lets you get two Steel Energy and attach it to one of your Benched Pokemon. If you read even closer you’ll realize that this is not restricted to Steel-type Pokemon. Any Pokemon can benefit from this Energy boost, making it especially compatible with Colorless Pokemon strategies.
