Maxis and EA have debuted compilations of The Sims and The Sims 2, featuring nearly all of the games’ downloadable content, to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary. The life simulation franchise from developer Maxis paved the way for life simulation games with the original game’s debut in 2000, helping to popularize the genre with its engaging gameplay. The franchise has welcomed four main-series Sims games with a mountain of DLC expansions across both PC and consoles. Now, some of the franchise’s original classics are back with a special release.
The launch of the first The Sims game on PC was a landmark release for the SimCity developer, serving as one of the first major life simulation games. The Sims would pave the way for many of the staples of the franchise going forward, including the games’ bizarre “Simlish” language and its plethora of DLC expansions. The Sims‘ success would see it ported to multiple home consoles as well, appearing on platforms like the PS2, GameCube, and Xbox among others. Now, fans are getting the chance to experience the series’ roots once again with a new re-release.
