After nearly two decades, EA is finally bringing the original two Sims games to Steam for the series’ 25th anniversary.
Both games are grouped together in the “Birthday Bundle” for $39.99, which includes every expansion and stuff pack, as well as new bonus content. However, if you’d prefer a more traditional experience, the Birthday Bundle also includes The Sims: Legacy Collection.
The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle is also available on the EA app and Epic Games Store, and you can purchase The Sims: Legacy Collection separately.
“Bringing back our original Sims games where all the chaos first unfolded and the life simulation genre began is special for our team and a birthday treat for our players,” The Sims vice president and general manager Kate Gorman Revelli said. “Our players have been wishing to relive all the nostalgia, and we knew our birthday would be the perfect moment to celebrate with them and introduce The Sims to new players.
“We look forward to another exciting 25 years of The Sims as we continue empowering our community to reimagine all the different ways they play with life.”
Making The Ultimate Collection Available For Everyone After Seven Years
The Sims 2 and its expansions were originally given away in 2014 to celebrate The Sims 4’s release in what was supposed to be a two-week promotion, but was later extended by four years to 2018. Packed into a lean 13GB file, the Ultimate Collection allowed you to play The Sims 2 from Origin (and thus the EA app) without needing a physical disc.
The Birthday Bundle finally makes what is essentially the Ultimate Collection available for purchase after seven years, which is a huge step forward in making the game more accessible. Now, when you recommend it to a friend, you don’t need to jump through ten hoops.
