Just like in the real-world trading card game on which it’s based, most people’s interest in Pokemon TCG Pocket lies in collecting cards rather than actually using them in battle. With this in mind, there are certain cards that every player wants to get their hands on at some point, although doing so can be a lot easier said than done.

How to Open Old Packs in Pokemon TCG Pocket
With the release of Space-Time Smackdown, Genetic Apex packs no longer appear on the home screen, but Pokemon TCG Pocket players can still open them.
The chances of getting the rarest cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket from packs are astronomically low. In fact, one of them can’t be pulled from packs at all. It’s this scarcity that makes them so highly desirable though, with some players using them to flex their incredible luck (or, in a lot of cases, the thickness of their wallets).

Mew ex (Gold Crown)
Mythical Island #86
Pretty much all of the rarest cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket are of gold crown rarity, making these the cards to look out for when pulling from packs. The Mythical Island expansion only has one of them, though, which makes life just a little bit easier for those hoping to get their hands on a gold crown Mew ex.
The chances of pulling gold crown Mew ex in the fourth slot of a Mythical Island pack are 0.040%, with the chances of getting it in the fifth slot being a fairly respectable 0.160%. Pokemon TCG Pocket’s God packs are even better, with players having a 5.555% of pulling gold crown Mew ex in all five slots should they ever be lucky enough to get one.

Palkia ex (Gold Crown)
Space-Time Smackdown #206
The decision to base Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s Space-Time Smackdown expansion around Gen-4 Pokemon surprised a lot of people, with many having been expecting Gen-2 to get its turn in the spotlight next. Once that decision had been made though, Pakia and Dialga seemed like the obvious choices for the set’s gold crown cards, and the developers duly delivered.
With just two gold crown cards on offer in Space-Time Smackdown, the chances of pulling Palkia’s in the fourth slot of a regular pack are 0.020% and this improves to 0.080% in the fifth slot. The odds of pulling gold crown Palkia ex from a God pack are 3.846%, although players will only be able to get it when opening Palkia packs.
5
Dialga ex (Gold Crown)
Space-Time Smackdown #207
Just as Dialga is one of the rarest Pokemon in the fourth generation Pokemon games, so too is its gold crown ex card one of the rarest cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket. Players will need to get extremely lucky if they’re ever to get their hands on it, with the odds of doing so falling squarely into one-in-several thousands territory.
Like its fellow creation Pokemon, the chances of pulling gold crown Dialga ex in the fourth or fifth slots of a regular pack are 0.020% and 0.080% respectively, regardless of which of the two pack types players choose. Again though, when it comes to God packs, gold crown Dialga ex will only be available from packs with Dialga on the front, with odds of 3.846% in all five slots.
4
Charizard ex (Gold Crown)
Genetic Apex #283
In the real-world TCG, Charizard cards tend to be the most desirable, so it’s not too surprising to see that the popular fire-type Pokemon has one of the rarest cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket as well. Unsurprisingly, it’s Charizard’s gold crown ex variant that most players are chasing, though their chances of packing it really aren’t that great.

All Space-Time Smackdown Secret Missions in Pokemon TCG Pocket
Pokemon TCG Pocket players will have to finish five Space-Time Smackdown secret missions if they want to get their hands on all of the set’s rewards.
The probability of getting a gold crown Charizard ex in the fourth slot of a regular pack is just 0.013%. Although still incredibly low, the fifth slot does offer significantly better odds at 0.053%. The chances of packing gold crown Charizard ex in a God pack Charizard pack are pretty decent at 5.000% in all five slots, although it’s important to note that the odds of getting a God pack are just 0.050%.
3
Pikachu ex (Gold Crown)
Genetic Apex #284
When it comes to the most recognizable Pokemon, there are only really two serious contenders for the title. A lot of people know Charizard due to its high-value TCG cards, but significantly more are able to recognize Pikachu as a result of its prominence in the Pokemon anime and its status as the series’ defacto mascot. As such, it makes sense that Pikachu has its own rare Pokemon TCG Pocket card.
Gold crown Pikachu ex can be pulled in all five slots of a Pikachu pack with odds of 5.000% if players end up getting a God pack, but most will never be this lucky. Instead, they’ll have to rely on fourth slot odds of just 0.013% in regular packs, with the chances of gold crown Pikachu ex showing up in the fifth slot being marginally better at 0.053%.
2
Mewtwo ex (Gold Crown)
Genetic Apex #285
The term “genetic apex” could be interpreted as being the pinnacle of evolution. As such, it seems only fitting that Mewtwo was chosen to be one of the three pack cover Pokemon for Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s Genetic Apex set. This ultimately led to the Mew clone being treated to its very own gold crown ex variant, which is one of the rarest cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket.
The chances of pulling gold crown Mewtwo ex are exceedingly low, with fourth and fifth slot odds of just 0.013% and 0.053% respectively in regular Genetic Apex packs. If players are opening Mewtwo packs and are somehow lucky enough to get a God pack, there’s a 5.000% chance of pulling gold crown Mewtwo ex in all five card slots, but one does not simply get a God pack in Pokemon TCG Pocket.
1
Mew (Immersive)
Genetic Apex #286
Unlike all of the other rare cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket, Mew isn’t a gold crown card. Believe it or not, this particular Mew card isn’t even an ex. What makes it so rare is that it cannot be pulled directly from packs, with players instead needing to collect one of every Gen-1 Pokemon from the Genetic Apex expansion in order to unlock this ultra-rare Mew immersive card.
Although none of these 150 cards are all that difficult to come by on their own, collecting all of them together can be incredibly difficult. Shortly after the game’s release, somebody calculated that it would cost Pokemon TCG Pocket players around $1,500 to complete the Genetic Apex expansion if they were to use real-world money, although the addition of trading since then has thankfully made getting immersive Mew a little easier.
