Roles are a new addition to EA Sports FC 25, helping to distinguish where your players will excel in Ultimate Team. Essentially, any player with a Role++ will perform exceptionally well when deployed with that particular assignment, which can be edited in your Tactics menu.

There are three Role levels: regular roles, Role+, and Role++, each indicating how well a given player will perform in a specific role. Falseback
The Falseback Role is the best option for fullbacks who can move into midfield while your team has possession, opening up options for you to pass to while your opponent applies pressure. High-potential Right Backs like Trent Alexander-Arnold are ideal candidates to deploy in this role.
This is the modern fullback personified, as this role will allow your player to open up options while you attack, but be careful not to commit too far forward, or your flank will be completely exposed.

Ball-Playing Defender
Only the best defenders in Ultimate Team can be deployed in the Ball-Playing Defender, as this Role is designed for versatile players who can set offside traps as well as ping passes to your wide players.
If you need help supporting your build-up play but don’t want to use your goalkeeper, this role is ideal for you.
A player like Virgil van Dijk is an excellent example of a top-tier Ball-Playing Defender, as he has the size, skill, and speed to help launch attacks forward without sacrificing your ability to shut down counterattacks at a moment’s notice.

Playmaker
In midfield, you’ll need excellent passers who can help to send your forwards through on goal. Options like Kevin De Bruyne and Jude Bellingham excel in this role, as they possess the technical skills to ensure your passes reach their targets.

You can also choose to call these players short toward your midfielders, where they can post up with their backs to the goal and create a passing outlet against a compact midfield. If you want a versatile striker who can do a little of everything, then an Advanced Forward is the best attacking Role.
