Although you may think spy shows are filled with gore, betrayal, and heartache, Spy X Family is the complete opposite. An entertaining, family-friendly action comedy, this show will have you teary-eyed from the utterly heart-warming, adorable moments, and clutching your stomach with laughter at the Forger family’s antics.
Spy X Family introduces you to the Forger family, one that’s made up of an undercover spy, a secret assassin and an orphaned telepath. Loid Forger poses as a well-rounded psychiatrist and family man while attempting to complete his mission for the good of Westalis. The anime already has two seasons, and with a third season coming up next year, we thought it was the perfect time to highlight the best episodes in the series.

An Interview At A Prestigious School
Season 1, Episode 4
After hectic preparations, the Forgers travelled to Eden Academy for the final stage of the qualifying rounds. As soon as they take their first steps onto school grounds, the family is already being tested, something that the sharp-eyed Loid notices instantly.
This episode sees the high stakes that could make and break the newly formed Forger family, as it largely hinges on everyone doing their part in front of the school’s chosen panel. Henry Henderson is also introduced in this episode, a strict and dignified dormitory housemaster and teacher, who shows his reputation for fairness when he deals a satisfying punch to his condescending colleague.
Season 1, Episode 17
In another desperate bid to help Loid with his super-secret mission, Anya tries again to befriend Damian Desmond. The two were inadvertently paired up for an art project, and although Anya angers Damian, their shoddy-looking griffon manages to win first place.
Aside from Anya’s adventures at school, we get a look into spymaster extraordinaire Sylvia Sherwood’s skills as a master of disguise. She isn’t amused at Loid’s reporting of Anya’s progress on jumping rope, but it’s a nice sign of Loid’s genuine care for Anya.

The Counter-Secret Police Cover Operation
Season 1, Episode 8
Yor Briar shines instantly due to her proficiency as an assassin and her abnormal strength, her shy and awkward demeanour hiding a dark and sadistic side. It turns out that she shares these traits with her younger brother, Yuri Briar, who first appeared in this episode.
Yuri works in the Secret Police, and although unaware that Loid is a spy, instantly dislikes him just because Loid took Yor’s attention away from him. Spy X Family continues its winning thread of introducing new, intriguing characters, with hilarious interactions between the Yor-obsessed Yuri, the oblivious Yor, and the cautious Loid.
7
The Great Dodgeball Plan
Season 1, Episode 10
In an episode that embodies the word ‘overdramatic’, Anya and her classmates face one of the worst challenges of their young lives: dodgeball. However, a lot is hinging on this for Anya (and Damian), as the best performer would win a Stella.

My Hero Academia has had some plus ultra episodes over the years.
Despite Anya and her team’s efforts, they’re regularly thrashed by Billy Watkins, a six-year-old who, by some miracle, has the physique of a full-grown man. The episode fools you with emotional highs that you’d think would pay off in a victory for Anya and her team, but reality sets in against a giant like Billy, and Anya must find another way to obtain a Stella.

Bond’s Strategy To Stay Alive/Damian’s Field Research Trip
Season 2, Episode 2
Like a majority of episodes in Spy X Family, two stories are told from two different characters’ perspectives. At the beginning of this episode, we go to the Forger family dog, Bond, who runs away to find Loid after seeing a vision of dying in Yor’s cooking. Bond ends up helping Loid in his mission, even getting in on the action against the company that just so happened to have experimented on him.
Damian’s perspective is next, carrying out his punishment after waking up late due to overstudying. The latter end of the episode gives a good character progression for Damian, who learns how to briefly let go of the pressures of his father’s legacy while on a picnic trip and truly enjoy what the world has to offer him.
5
Follow Mama And Papa
Season 2, Episode 1
The first episode of the second season drops you right back into the thick of things, with Yor in the midst of completing a job. In a humorous twist of events, Yor gets shot in the buttocks and must try to hide her wound from her family, though she’s doing a poor job of hiding the fact she’s in immense pain.
Loid misunderstands her pain, thinking she’s angry with him, and takes her out on a date. What follows is an awkward date, with Anya and Franky tailing them. Overall, an entertaining, lighthearted start to an action-filled season.
4
Disarm The Time Bomb
Season 1, Episode 14
Each member of the Forger family gets their time to shine in this episode, with the cutest team-up in anime history embodied by the growing bond between Anya and Bond. The tiny duo pinpointed the location of the bomb, but are left stumped on how to deactivate it. In true Anya fashion, she leaves a warning on the bomb-strapped door using ketchup, which Loid thankfully catches.
Yor had a brief screen time at the start of the episode, involving herself in the bomb plot by accident to protect Anya. Loid and the rest of the WISE agents have their hands full stopping the terrorists, with Loid pulling out all the stops – even disguising himself as a Westalis minister. The mix of compelling action, comedic and adorable moments, and a satisfying climax to the bomb plot wraps this episode as one of the best.
3
Underground Tennis Tournament Campbelldon
Season 1, Episode 22
As part of their secret mission, Loid and fellow spy Fiona Frost go undercover to obtain a coded painting. Wearing disguises, the two enter an underground tennis competition held by their target, and the duo guns for a win to be granted the painting as a prize.

The Hand That Connects To The Future
Season 2, Episode 9
The final leg of Yor Forger’s mission treats us to more high stakes and an impactful fight scene that sees Yor come out on top. Loid and Anya overhear that a bomb has been planted on the ship, only to discover that there’s more than one bomb. Anya helps return Yor’s weapon and leads the ship’s staff to the location of the bombs. When all is said and done, the bad guys get their comeuppance and the Forgers can finally relax and start their vacation.
