FBC: Firebreak may not be a direct sequel to Control, but thanks to a discovery from a clever fan, it appears that the multiplayer spin-off may be more connected than previously thought. An Easter egg found on the official website for FBC: Firebreak reveals that Control‘s main protagonist, Jesse Faden, is likely to play a significant role in the story, even if she isn’t a playable character.
As a side story that aims to bridge the gap between Control and the in-development Control 2, FBC: Firebreak is a surprising turn for developer Remedy Entertainment, as online co-op ventures aren’t exactly the genre the studio is known for. Remedy has built its legacy on mind-bending action-based and survival horror narratives. As the developer continues to grow its connected universe by intertwining Alan Wake and Control, FBC: Firebreak setting the stage for Control 2 raises plenty of questions about Jesse’s role, especially now that it’s clear she will be present in some capacity.

How Remedy’s Mixture of Genres Could Affect Its Connected Universe Synergy
Remedy’s interconnected universe has a lot of promise, but the broad spectrum of genres in the studio’s portfolio could pose a challenge.
Jesse Faden’s Role in FBC: Firebreak is Bound to Be Significant
The Easter egg in question was discovered by Reddit user AkeeRDT. On the official website for FBC: Firebreak, there is an advertisement to join the game’s newsletter in order to be the first to get updates on the game. A portion of the promotion is redacted, but AkeeRDT realized that if one highlights the redacted portion of the text, it reveals Jesse Faden’s name. Once the redacted portion is revealed, the FBC briefing reads, “Be the first to learn the latest news, updates, and dispatches from Director Faden.” While this could simply point to Jesse being present in only the newsletters, it also implies that she actually has a significant role in the game as well.
FBC: Firebreak is the first self-published game from Remedy Entertainment.
Jesse’s Role as FBC Director Brings Fun Gameplay Possibilities
There are several ways Jesse could be used in FBC: Firebreak. While it’s already been established in the newsletter teaser that she will be presenting updates and dispatches, she also seems likely to be an in-game guide that delivers missions and assignments. Whether it be in opening tutorials on how to play the game or corresponding with her in the middle of objectives, Jesse’s presence seems like a given. There are plenty of lingering questions about FBC: Firebreak, but the discovery by AkeeRDT is pointing toward an integral piece of the puzzle.
Everything Confirmed About FBC: Firebreak
- Takes place at the climax of a “years-long siege” of the Federal Bureau of Control
- First-person co-op
- Three-person squads
- Planned to launch in 2025
Despite the information above, FBC: Firebreak remains a pile of mysteries. Such a drastic departure from Remedy’s usual single-player formula is compelling, but there are plenty of questions about how much longevity a multiplayer game set in the Control universe could have. Thanks to the wonderfully outlandish strangeness of the Control lore, FBC: Firebreak likely has a lot of bizarre missions and supernatural entities hidden up its sleeve.
FBC: Firebreak‘s trailer revealed the game will once again take place in The Oldest House. This presents the game with the opportunity to showcase parts of The Oldest House that Control never explored.
Where Jesse Faden fits in all of this is still unconfirmed, but thanks to AkeeRDT’s intriguing find, she feels bound to be one of the main characters tasked with helping players along the way. This would make perfect sense, since her role as Director of the FBC puts her in the perfect position to be a guiding force. Between Remedy’s knack for wild twists and plot points and FBC: Firebreak still not having an official release date, the mysterious nature of the game only makes it that more intriguing. Once the first multiplayer title in the connected Remedy universe finally sees the light of day, it will be fascinating to see how big of a part it plays in Control‘s overall story.
