A Pokemon fan shares art that tries to make a logical evolutionary connection between Ghost-type Pokemon Brambleghast and Dhelmise.
This memorable art came from a Reddit user known as Matratzfratz, who shared a picture of their Luigi-themed Lugia makeover. Impressively, the artist took these two seemingly disparate characters and combined them into something memorable. The Pokemon design kept the shape of Lugia but gave it the iconic green plumber outfit of Luigi. In addition, Matratzfratz added a mustache to Lugia, making it even more reminiscent of the Super Mario character.
Pokemon Fan’s Luigi-Themed Lugia Design
According to the image, Matratzfratz’s Lugia retained the Dragon typing and added the fighting type. Besides the base Luigi-inspired design, what made the fan art even more noteworthy was the shiny version of the Pokemon. While the creator could have chosen the Mario route, they changed the outfit color to purple to match the infamous Waluigi instead.
With more than 1.1K upvotes on Reddit, many fans were glad Matratzfratz chose to use Luigi’s rival over the red-capped plumber, with many praising both designs. Some highlighted how the artist was able to come up with a professional-looking result despite starting with what they considered a “goofy” concept. In addition, others thought the player should continue creating Pokemon designs based on word puns. For example, they thought a Ho-Oh named “Mariho-Oh” held a lot of potential.
Besides impressive fan art, 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting time for both Pokemon and Mario. Pokemon Legends: Z-A is expected to launch sometime this year, taking fans on a journey involving Lumiose City. Meanwhile, the next Mario Kart was shown during the Switch 2 reveal, suggesting it could launch before the end of the year. Furthermore, it will be eight years in October since Super Mario Odyssey was released, so some gamers think a teaser for the next 3D Super Mario game could happen during the April 2 Nintendo Direct. Regardless of how the rest of the year unfolds, fans can at least enjoy unique art from fans like Matratzfratz while they wait for future announcements.
