Overwatch Classic is returning in Overwatch 2, this time adding some of the original game’s earlier post-launch heroes, including DPS Doomfist. The first round of Overwatch Classic took place in Overwatch 2 from November to early December. As a limited-time mode, it gave fans of the first game a brief opportunity to relive the glory days of Overwatch‘s launch state, with 6v6 gameplay and a limited roster of the original 21 heroes. On top of this, all heroes were reverted to their original states with their launch ability kits.
When Doomfist was added to Overwatch in the summer of 2017, he did so as a DPS hero, and a unique one at that. His mobility was unparalleled and his moveset was unlike any other hero in the game at the time. When Overwatch 2 rolled around in 2022, Doomfist controversially became a tank hero. He was only the second hero ever to swap roles in Overwatch, following Symmetra’s move to DPS from Support in 2018. Blizzard gave Doomfist a larger frame to fit in with the other tanks in Overwatch 2, and he was also stripped of his uppercut ability, which was replaced with Power Block that charges up his bread-and-butter Rocket Punch.

Overwatch 2 Fans Think Blizzard is Teasing the Game’s Next Hero
Overwatch 2 fans notice a well-hidden Easter egg that Blizzard might have left as a teaser as to who the 43rd hero coming in Season 16 might be.
Now, fans can look forward to another run of Overwatch Classic in Overwatch 2. This time around, Blizzard is adding some of the original game’s early post-launch heroes in Ana, Sombra, Orisa, and Doomfist, who will be back as a DPS hero for the first time since the end of the original Overwatch. The mode will give players an opportunity to relive Overwatch‘s Mercy Moth meta and will go live on February 4.
DPS Doomfist Will Return In Overwatch Classic
Since Overwatch Classic gives all its heroes their original ability kits, Doomfist fans will be able to once again utilize his Rising Uppercut ability, which was stripped away from him as part of his transition to Tank. This new wave also means the return of Orisa’s infamous bunker shield, which caused many headaches for opposing players, especially when it was paired with Bastion or a Torbjorn turret. Fans can expect this second wave of Overwatch Classic to run for about two or three weeks, based on how long it ran previously. It’s likely that Blizzard is already planning a third run of the mode which would look to add the next batch of post-launch heroes like Moira, Brigitte, Wrecking Ball, and Ashe.
Overwatch 2 is currently in the second half of its 14th season, which added the latest Tank hero, Hazard. Season 15 of Overwatch 2 is expected to begin in mid-to-late February, but it won’t bring a new hero to the roster. Rather, it’ll bring a new battle pass theme and likely some new maps and modes. Maybe Season 15 will be the stage for the third and perhaps final wave of Overwatch Classic, though fans will have to wait and see.
