One of the Biggest Upcoming Xbox Games Could Be Coming to PS5 on Day 1

According to a new rumor, Fable may be released for PlayStation 5 on day one. Previously announced for PC and Xbox Series X/S, this isn’t the first time a PlayStation 5 release for Fable has been speculated, with players on Sony’s flagship console wondering if they should get excited ahead of the title’s launch later in 2025.

The first new installment in the action fantasy RPG series since 2012 and the first mainline entry since 2010, players got their first look at in-game Fable footage during the 2023 Xbox Games Showcase. The reboot promises to introduce more modern gameplay mechanics and visuals while maintaining the dry humor and satirical approach to fairy tales found in earlier installments. The Fable franchise has been an Xbox staple since the first game was released in 2004, when players were introduced to the world of Albion for the first time. However, if recent rumors are to be believed, the newest title might not be an Xbox console exclusive as many initially expected.

According to a new Reddit post, Vandal, a well-known Spanish video game site, claims that Fable might appear on PlayStation 5 as a day-one release. When the game’s release window was first revealed in June 2024, only PC and Xbox Series X/S were confirmed platforms, but this plan may have been changed in the months since. Recently, Xbox has begun shifting away from console exclusives, with Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer stating his intention to “evolve” the brand by introducing first-party titles to a wider audience. In late 2024, Windows Central’s Jez Corden claimed that, while Fable may not be a day-one release on PS5, it would likely make its way to the console eventually to help Microsoft recoup the game’s massive budget.

Fable May Come to PlayStation 5 on Release Day

While longtime fans of the franchise are eager to return to the world of Albion, not everyone has responded positively to the newest title from Playground Games. The reveal trailer for Fable 4 was largely disliked, with many disapproving of the main character’s appearance and asking the developers to add character customization. Some positivity could be found in the comments, however, with many complimenting the title’s varied environments and voice acting.

Fable is expected to be released in 2025, though given the game’s development timeline, fans may need to wait until the latter half of the year to get their hands on the highly anticipated title. Xbox and Playground Games are expected to provide an update after the release of the upcoming action RPG Avowed drops in February.
