Unlike many of its sister games, Necesse doesn’t give the player a hoe or hoe-like tool to till the soil, making the farming a little confusing since the game imports many of its mechanics from other games within the genre.
In Necesse, players need to create farmland tiles, place them in an appropriate spot, and plant their crops on those tiles. Farmland tiles can be crafted at the Workstation, each one costing x5 Any Log to make. Players don’t need to water the crops planted on farmland tiles.

How to Automate Crop Growth in Necesse
An important part of Necesse is the automation of menial tasks, which can be quite easy once the player gets the hang of the NPC and settlement management menu.
- Find and recruit an NPC that can farmland. You can check the abilities of an NPC by asking them what they can do before agreeing to recruit them. After recruiting NPCs, you can see the work that they can perform in the Work Priorities tab of the Settlement Interface.
- From there, increase the priority of farming from normal to high.
- Go to the Assign Work tab and set the farmland as the fertilizer zone. Make sure to place a Compost Bin in your settlement as Farmers will need Fertilizer to speed up the crop-growing process.
