How to Evolve Pawmi in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

How to Evolve Pawmi in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Pawmi is undoubtedly one of Pokemon Scarlet and Violets cutest new additions. The first of three evolutions, Pawmi seems to start as an adorable quadruped, another cuddly rodent-type with the potential to shock the unsuspecting—usually endearingly so.

Updated on January 31, 2025 by Renri Seong: Pawmi and its evolutions are part of the “electric rodents” group that are included in every new generation of Pokemon. Unlike Morpeko before it, Pawmi is part of a two-evolution line, in which it goes from a regular Electric-type to an Electric/Fighting-type. This Mouse Pokemon is one of the first you’ll find in your Scarlet & Violet playthrough, so you can catch it right out the gate, if you wish. The following guide has been revamped to include updated information on where to find/catch Pawmi and its evolutions. It also includes stats and type effectiveness for Pawmot, its final evolution.

Where to Find Pawmi in Scarlet & Violet

Pawmi Locations in Paldea

Pawmi is located in South Province (Area One, Two, Three, Five) and Poco Path. If you’re looking in higher-level areas, you may find a group of Pawmi surrounding a Pawmo, the second evolution of the Pawmi-line. However, Pawmi can be one of the first Pokemon you catch in Scarlet/Violet if you search Poco Path.

You can refer to the destination flag/trainer icon in the above image for the exact location of Pawmi in Poco Path. Here’s how to get a level 4 Pawmi before meeting the box-art legendary (i.e, Koraidon/Miraidon):

  1. Follow the road leading towards the lighthouse on Poco Path.
  2. Before nearing Inlet Grotto, veer right off the path, and you’ll find two palm trees on a lone cliff. If you look at the map, Pawmi’s location is between Inlet Grotto’s shore and Nemona’s backyard.

Once you start your Treasure Hunt, you’ll be able to take part in Tera Raids. Sometimes, you’ll find a 1-star Tera Raid that has a Pawmi. If you manage to defeat Pawmi in a Raid, you’ll have a chance of catching it. Pawmis found in 1-star Tera Raids are level 12.

Pawmi Evolution Method

Once you have Pawmi, you’ll probably want to evolve it. Pawmi evolves into Pawmo at level 18. The quickest way to level up Pawmi is to give it Exp. Candy S. If you catch a Pawmi that’s beyond its evolution level, then just level it up once to trigger the evolution. If you don’t have Exp. Candy or Rare Candy, then you should use Pawmi to Auto-Battle Pokemon that it has a type advantage over.

When it becomes Pawmo, it gains Fighting-type, making it a dual Electric/Fighting-type Pokemon. This means it can learn Fighting-type moves and get STAB from said moves. However, this new typing also means Pawmo has new weaknesses that it wouldn’t have had as a Pawmi.

Where to Catch Pawmo

If you’re well past the starting point of Scarlet/Violet, then you may want to just catch Pawmo in the wild. Fortunately, Pawmo lives in every province in Paldea. Despite its dex entry saying its “rarely seen”, you can find Pawmo just as you can Pawmi. Normally, Pawmo is surrounded by Pawmi, so you’ll want to ZL-Target to battle it easier.

Here’s a list of all of Pawmo’s habitats in Scarlet/Violet:

  • South Province (Area One, Three, Four, Five)
  • East Province (Area One, Two)
  • West Province (Area One, Two, Three*)
  • North Province (Area One*, Three*)
  • Area Zero

* Pawmo located in this area are Fixed Spawns.

Pawmo also appears in 3-star Tera Raids, which unlock when you have 3 gym badges. Pawmos in 3-star Raids are level 35. They also might have their Hidden Ability: Iron Fist. This powers up punching moves such as Thunder Punch and Drain Punch.

How to Use Let’s Go! Feature

pokemon scarlet and violet pawmo let's go

To evolve Pawmo into Pawmot in Scarlet/Violet, you need to have it walk 1000 steps using the Let’s Go! feature, then level it up once. Call out Pawmo on the overworld by using the ZR-button. Then, just walk around and make sure it doesn’t return to its Poke Ball.

You can reach 1000 steps easily by climbing on the roof of a Pokemon Center or a low building. Make sure Pawmo is out of its Poke Ball, then use Koraidon/Miraidon to get on the Pokemon Center’s roof. If you angle your character right, then Pawmo should continuously run in place/into the wall to try and reach its trainer. When you think you have enough steps, level it up to evolve it into Pawmot.

Pawmot will occasionally appear in 5-star and 6-star Tera Raids, both of which are unlocked in the postgame. 5-star Tera Raids unlock when you’ve completed “The Way Home”; 6-star Tera Raids require you to finish the Academy Ace Tournament.

Is Pawmot Good?

Pawmot Stats and Type Effectiveness

pokemon scarlet and violet pawmot

As mentioned, Pawmot is a dual Electric/Fighting-type Pokemon. This gives it some more type coverage than it had as a Pawmi, but at the cost of more weaknesses. One downside to the dual-typing is Pawmot loses its resistance to Flying-type moves, taking normal damage from them thanks to its Fighting-type.

Fortunately, Pawmot has amazing base Attack and Speed, meaning a Jolly (+Spd, -Sp. Attk) or Adamant (+Attk, -Sp. Attk) is ideal. However, is it enough to stand on its own when compared to the other Electric-types in Scarlet/Violet?

Here are Pawmot’s base stats and type effectiveness:

HP:

70

Attack:

115

Special Attack:

70

Defense:

70

Special Defense:

60

Speed:

105

Total:

490

Super-effective against:

Flying, Water, Normal, Rock, Steel, Ice, Dark

Weaknesses:

Fairy, Psychic, Ground

Resistances:

Electric, Bug, Rock, Dark, Steel

Immunities:

N/A

Pawmot has poor HP, Defense, and Special Defense. This means it can easily be 1HKO’d by Pokemon that target its type weaknesses. On the plus side, Pawmot has high Speed and Attack, meaning it’s likely to move before the opponent Pokemon. With the right moves and held items, Pawmot can 1HKO other Pokemon, too.

Pawmot will want to learn Revival Blessing when it evolves from Pawmo. This is a move that revives a fainted Pokemon wtih half of its max HP, making it a solid support Pokemon. However, if you want to use Pawmot offesnively, then you should give it builds that consist of physical moves and/or moves that give it STAB:

  • Double Shock: This is Pawmot’s signature move. It deals 120 damage and can only be used if the user is an Electric-type. A successful Double Shock will cause Pawmot to lose its Electric-typing for that battle. This will instead make Pawmot a Fighting-type, but, again, only for the current battle.
  • Close Combat or Brick Break: Close Combat is a strong Fighting-type move that has a power of 120, but using it will sharply lower Pawmot’s Defense and Special Defense.
    • If you want a “safer” Fighting-type move, you can try Brick Break. Brick Break will also rid the effects of Reflect and Light Screen on the opposing team.
  • Ice Punch or Fire Punch: Both are elemental “punching” moves that give it some more type coverage.
  • Knock Off or Crunch: Both are Dark-type moves, giving it coverage against most Psychic-type Pokemon, another of Pawmot’s weaknesses.
    • Knock Off is useful during the Blueberry Academy story of Scarlet/Violet‘s expansion pass. This will, quite literally, knock off any held item by the opponent Pokemon, rendering the item useless for the duration of the battle.
    • Crunch has a chance of lowering the target Pokemon’s Defense by one stage.
