Elden Ring is without a doubt one of the most successful games developer FromSoftware has ever produced, and is certainly its most popular. Now the studio is pivoting to something slightly different in the form of Elden Ring Nightreign, a spin-off of Elden Ring focused on cooperative multiplayer adventuring in the Lands Between. Players will gather in teams of three or solo to explore and fight enemies in familiar parts of the world, taking on bosses both familiar and new and mastering their weapons and combat styles. They’ll also deal with a survival component of sorts centered around Elden Ring Nightreign‘s day-and-night cycle.

Fake Elden Ring Nightreign Playtest Steam Invites Can Hack a Player’s Account
In posts on social media, user Nikoheart showed off screenshots of messages in the Steam interface that used official Elden Ring Nightreign banners and art, but linked to suspicious pages that don’t match the format of Steam’s usual links. Victims of the scam reported that accessing the link caused their accounts to mass-message their friend list with similar links, blocking communication, and even compromising their Steam Guard two-factor security.
Some who claimed to have been affected by the hack reported that they were able to get access back after contacting Steam support. Other players recalled similar hacking and scamming incidents on Steam centered around excitement about popular games, such as a Steam scam where developers renamed their games to Helldivers 2 to trick buyers into thinking they were picking up the popular co-op shooter on sale.
Though the excitement around Elden Ring Nightreign is almost palpable, the recent rise in scams and hacks latching onto popular or viral games shows how unscrupulous actors can prey on fan enthusiasm. Regardless of how highly anticipated a game is, players should exercise due caution whenever dealing with unsolicited messages online.
