Last year, Herschel “Guy” Beahm IV (aka Dr DisRespect) found himself at the center of a controversy, after he was accused of sending inappropriate messages to a minor. It was claimed that Beahm knew that the individual in question was underage, and he even admitted in a now-deleted tweet that the conversations “sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate”.
Many companies took action against Beahm, as games, commercial partners, and even his own studio severed ties with him over the controversy. YouTube was also included in these companies, as the platform swiftly demonetised Beahm over “serious allegations against the creator”, claiming that he had violated its Creator Responsibility policies.
Dr DisRespect’s YouTube Monetization Has Been Returned
Seven months on, it seems as though YouTube has now seen it fit to give Beahm his monetization back “after careful review of the channel’s recent activity.” In a statement to Forbes, YouTube spokesperson Boot Bullwinkle reaffirmed that Beahm was suspended for “violations of our Creator Responsibility policies”, and that he will face further suspensions if he violates them again.
YouTube doesn’t mention exactly why Beahm has been allowed to monetize his YouTube streams again outside of this. You’d have thought that Beahm’s case would be considered a lot more serious than a simple “violation” of YouTube’s Creator Responsibility program, and even Beahm himself claimed that it “came out of nowhere.”
Beahm announced the return of his monetization in his latest stream, revealing the news to his fans at the 2 hour and 14 minute mark. In the announcement, Beahm claimed that he has to “regulate certain things in regard to donations” and set things up again, but that his ability to monetise his streams has returned.
Despite this, it seems as though Beahm is going to continue using Rumble, calling it “his baby”. Rumble is the platform which took Beahm after the allegations were leveled against him last summer, which is advertised as a place “immune to cancel culture”. That probably explains why he’s making it his main platform, and gives him a safe place to stream if he ends up in more trouble later down the line.
