Solo Leveling: 6 Things The Anime Does Better Than The Manhwa
Although the manhwa is still worth reading, the Solo Leveling anime does a few things better.
However, after reaching a certain level, Jin-Woo stopped fearing the consequences of revealing his powers. That’s why he decided to re-evaluate his rank by visiting the Hunter Association HQ. As expected, Jin-Woo is revealed to be an S-Rank Hunter. He is the tenth S-Rank Hunter to come out of Korea, so it’s obvious that every powerful Guild will try to recruit him. In fact, two of the wealthiest Guilds already reached out to him. Now, it does make the community wonder if Jin-Woo will join any Guild in Solo Leveling. If yes, which one?
WARNING: This post contains SPOILERS from the Solo Leveling Manhwa.
Sung Jin-Woo Doesn’t Join Any Existing Guild
He Doesn’t Want To Become A Puppet Working For Money
Of course, Jin-Woo entered the game because of money, as he wanted to support his sister’s education and his mother’s treatment. However, Jin-Woo’s motivations slowly started to change after he became an S-Rank Hunter. Jin-Woo knew that all the five major Guilds would be happy to throw an insane amount of money to recruit him. However, Jin-Woo decides not to join any of the existing Guild for two reasons.
Firstly, Jin-Woo learned from Go Gunhee that the five major guilds are barely maintaining balance, and his joining any of these guilds would shatter that balance. Secondly, Jin-Woo knew that he wouldn’t be able to go on Dungeon Raids freely if he was part of a Guild. It’s really important for him to tackle high-ranking Gates alone in order to level up. And if there are always people around him, especially other S-Rank Hunters, they might learn the secret of Jin-Woo’s powers.
These five behemoths are barely maintaining balance. But as soon as you join any of them, that balance will be shattered – Go Gunhee to Sung Jin-Woo.
For the very same reason, Jin-Woo also rejects Go Gunhee’s offer to join the Hunter Association. Go Gunhee is well aware that one of the five major Guilds can make or break the rules in Korea if they have Jin-Woo by their side. These Guilds could become Korea’s strongest organization if they recruit Jin-Woo. To prevent that, Go Gunhee begs the S-Rank Hunter to join Korea’s Hunter Association. The offer was enticing for sure, and Jin-Woo realized that his life would only change for the better if he agreed to Go Gunhee’s offer.
There’s one problem with joining the Hunter Association, though — Jin-Woo won’t be allowed to take part in Dungeon Raids; only Guilds are allowed to do that. So, not only does Jin-Woo reject the offer from all five major Guilds in Korea, but he also declines the opportunity to join the Hunter Association.

Jin-Woo realizes that he has no choice but to go forward, but he can’t do it if someone is always watching him. Regardless, he didn’t have much say as an E-Rank Hunter, so he was bound to go on Dungeon Raids with other people. He is an S-Rank Hunter now, so the Hunter Association will listen to everything that Jin-Woo has to say. Right now, he is Korea’s tenth S-Rank Hunter, but very soon, he’ll become the strongest Hunter in Korea.
The biggest threat that the Solo Leveling anime series has teased as of now is Jeju Island. The Ants on this island have claimed the lives of multiple S-Rank Hunters. So, it’s no wonder that powerful Hunters like Choi Jong-In also fear the monsters on Jeju Island. Right now, they don’t know if someone is powerful enough to defeat the threat that’s haunting the island. However, Jin-Woo will surprise the world by becoming the hero in the Jeju Island Arc. The world will start to acknowledge him, and several Guilds from outside of Korea will try to recruit him. Fearing that Korea might lose its biggest asset, Go Gunhee begs Jin-Woo not to leave the country. Jin-Woo uses that fear to create an opportunity for himself and asks Go Gunhee to let him go on Dungeon raids alone.
Would you let me enter high-ranking gates all by myself in the future? – Sung Jin-Woo to Go Gunhee.
Even though Jin-Woo was always a one-man army, he still needed to be affiliated with a Guild to participate in Dungeon Raids. To fulfill that condition, Jin-Woo decides to start the Ahjin Guild with Yoo Jinho and Yoo Soohyun (Jinho’s cousin) as the only members. Yoo Soohyun doesn’t have any interest in Dungeon Raids despite being an A-Rank Hunter, and the same goes with Yoo Jinho. So, as the Guild Master of Ahjin Guild, Jin-Woo can go to Dungeon Raids alone, and the Hunter Association will look the other way so Jin-Woo doesn’t leave the country.

How Does Solo Leveling: Ragnarök Compare to the Original Manhwa?
2024 was a busy year for Solo Leveling, as the anime, documentary, and sequel manhwa were released. How does Ragnarök compare to the original manhwa?
Despite only having one S-Rank Hunter as its member, Ahjin Guild quickly becomes the world’s mightiest Guild. Jin-Woo’s might was already enough to make the Guild powerful, but his massive Shadow Army made it the world’s strongest Guild. Even Guilds with multiple S-Rank Hunters could not compete with the Ahjin Guild in terms of strength. As Go Gunhee mentions in the manhwa, anyone will place their bet on Jin-Woo instead of a team comprising 20 A-Rank Hunters.
