Summary

  • EA has heavily discounted Dragon Age: The Veilguard after revealing its sales have underperformed so far.
  • The Veilguard is $24.99, down from $70, at Amazon and GameStop.
  • EA revealed The Veilguard sold 1.5 million copies in its first two months but was expected to sell twice that.

EA revealed the disappointing news last week that Dragon Age: The Veilguard didn’t meet the lofty expectations it set for it by quite some way, only pulling in half the players it expected at launch. The studio now appears to be performing damage control by slashing the price of the game across multiple storefronts, dropping The Veilguard to its lowest price to date.

That price is nowhere close to its previous lowest either as right now, you can pick up a copy of Dragon Age: The Veilguard at GameStop or through Amazon for just $24.99. The lowest price the latest Dragon Age game had dropped to before now was $39.99, hitting that low over Christmas and then again during the January sales.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard will only get updates for “game-breaking bugs” now, so don’t expect any few features.

Even a drop of $30 from The Veilguard’s MSRP of $69.99 doesn’t appear to have been enough to steady the ship, hence EA knocking an additional $15 off the price of the game to bring it down to almost a third of its original price less than three months on from its release. It’s unclear how long the still very new Dragon Age game will remain available for this little. If you have been considering picking it up on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S and haven’t done so already, now is the time to pull the trigger.

If You Still Haven’t Played It, Play It Now

EA confirmed during its most recent quarterly earnings report that it expected The Veilguard to have sold three million copies by now. However, as of December 31, 2024, it had only achieved half of that, selling 1.5 million copies. On the one hand, you can point to EA and accuse the studio of expecting too much. On the other, at last count, Dragon Age: Inquisition had sold 12 million copies, so it seems EA was hoping its sequel might follow a similar trajectory.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is the long-awaited fourth game in the fantasy RPG series from BioWare formerly known as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. A direct sequel to Inquisition, it focuses on red lyrium and Solas, the aforementioned Dread Wolf.

The Veilguard doesn’t appear to be in quite as perilous a position as other titles released in 2024 that struggled to sell such as Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League and Skull And Bones. Both of those games received heavy discounts throughout last year with the former on sale for as little as $3 at one point. Skull And Bones is actually included in the same sale at GameStop meaning you can pick that up for $24.99 too if you like.
