This article contains spoilers for One Piece’s Elbaf Arc.

Summary

  • Figerland Shamrock is introduced as Commander of the Holy Knights in One Piece.
  • The Holy Knights may have a complex Command structure beyond Shamrock’s position.
  • Shamrock’s role hints at possible power struggles and promotions within the group.

Although they may seem convoluted and complex at times, the structures of the various groups of One Piece are fairly important to the world-building of the story. Between the command structure of the Navy, the finer details of the bounty system, and the many different groups that are peppered throughout the series, the structure of One Piece seems to be too intricate for its good at times. Still, these elements are one of the parts that make the series so unique, setting it apart from any other anime released so far.

As many fans have already read, One Piece has introduced yet another group of characters during the Final Saga of the series. This group, the Holy Knights, for many, feels like one of the biggest “endgame” forces that One Piece has to offer. Although little was known about the World Government forces before, the Elbaf Arc of One Piece has introduced a small detail that may share a lot of information about the inner structure of this group.

Chapter 1137 Of One Piece Reveals A New Kind Of Holy Knight

Shamrock Is The Commander Of The Holy Knights

The Holy Knights, or God’s Knights, in One Piece, are the incredibly powerful characters that defend the World Government’s Holy Land of Marie Geoise. This group is tasked with protecting any World Noble that requires assistance, though at the same time, they can punish any noble they deem to be conducting themselves improperly. In many ways, this group is the final line of defense for One Piece’s World Government and Nobles, acting as the strongest force at their disposal.

This group, although few details have been shared in One Piece’s Final Saga so far, consists of nine individuals at the very least. So far, only three characters have been confirmed to be a part of the group, the Supreme Commander Figerland Garling, Figerland Shamrock, and Gunko. Outside of this, the silhouettes of two more, unconfirmed figures have been shown off. However, by the end of Egghead Island, Figerland Garling has left his post as a Holy Knight and joined the ranks of One Piece’s Five Elders.

Although this is the first reveal of the character, his position as Commander of the Holy Knights reveals some information about the inner workings of the group.

Zoro will have a major enemy to fight in Elbaf. His next opponent in One Piece has been decided.

Firstly, this title of Commander reveals that either a new leader to replace Figerland Garling hasn’t been chosen yet, or the Elder still commands the forces of the Holy Knights. However, it could also mean that another character, that hasn’t been revealed so far, was made the new Supreme Commander of the Holy Knights. If this is true, then it raises many questions about the inner workings and politics of One Piece’s Holy Knights as a whole.

There May Be Many Commanders Of One Piece’s Holy Knights

The Chain Of Command For This Group Could Be Longer Than Expected

One Piece Holy Knights-1

Assuming there is only one Supreme Commander of the group, there is no way to tell how many Commanders the group may have. For example, while Shamrock may be a Commander of the group, another Commander may have been promoted over him. Though, at the same time, the previous Commander may have been promoted to the position of Supreme Commander while Shanks’s mysterious twin, Shamrock, was next in line for the Commander position. However, being the son of the former Supreme Commander, it seems unlikely that Shamrock wouldn’t be promoted over another character.

I’d hoped we could have settled this much more cleanly… – Shamrock

Until more information is revealed, however, fans are only left with these assumptions about the inner workings of One Piece’s Holy Knights, which includes the Arrow-Arrow Fruit user Gunko. So far, a hierarchy of a Supreme Commander and a Commander is known. However, the small detail that Shamrock was only a Commander and not a Supreme Commander reveals the potential for a massive chain of command within this new One Piece group.
