Christopher Landon’s next Blumhouse horror movie Drop will be in theaters soon, and the trailer suggests a chilling story about a date gone wrong.
The original The Faculty had some great talent behind it. Scream writer Kevin Williamson wrote the original script, and the cast included Josh Hartnett, Elijah Wood, Jon Stewart, Usher Raymond, Clea DuVall, Salma Hayek, and Jordana Brewster. According to Variety, BoulderLight is producing The Faculty remake, and original director Robert Rodriguez is also a producer.
The Faculty is a chilling sci-fi story about high schoolers who think their teachers could be aliens. The movie is still popular today thanks to its clever script, wise characters who don’t fit in, and the intense and entertaining plot. The movie also has some of the most memorable teen horror movie villains.
In an interview with Digital Trends, Rodrigez said he wanted to call the movie The Others and also thought about the title Alienated. He noted that Nicole Kidman’s thriller The Others was released shortly after The Faculty. Rodriguez said:
“Making The Faculty was just a blast. There was so much young energy and the actors were just so into it. I will say, I was worried it wouldn’t do well though. I wanted them to use a different title because our target audience wasn’t gonna want to see a movie about teachers. So I fought for a better title.”
Although the plot of The Faculty remake is unclear at this point, fans can assume that the movie will feature a new group of teenagers who are scared of their teachers. While some might ask if the teen horror genre is over since not a lot of new films are being made about this age group, The Faculty remake proves that many cool stories can still be told about this time in life. Since so much has changed since the original was released in 1998, it will be interesting to compare the two films. The new characters will definitely use cell phones, social media, and laptops, which will change how they interact with the danger at their school. It will also be interesting to see what the aliens look like this time around.
The Faculty became a fan favorite as it’s a funny horror movie about smart teenagers but also a fun take on aliens. The terror and shock of realizing that teachers aren’t so innocent and could be a huge threat makes for a fast-paced ride, and The Faculty remake is sure to be just as exciting.
