  • Stardew Valley cosplay is common, but Mr. Qi’s cosplay is challenging due to the dedication required.

A dedicated Stardew Valley fan has cosplayed as the mysterious Mr. Qi from the game. The cosplay is impressing members of the Stardew Valley community, and is surprisingly faithful to the character’s appearance.

Mr. Qi is somewhat of an anomaly and curiosity in Stardew Valley. The character plays a role in both the Calico Desert and on Ginger Island, and seems to have an uncanny knowledge of what the player is doing. For example, Mr. Qi will task the player with reaching floor 100 of the Skull Cavern. If a player gets there normally, they’ll be commended, but if they use staircases, Mr. Qi will know this and lightly scold the player for clever but dishonorable method. Mr. Qi can’t be communicated with like a standard Pelican Town NPC, so a lot about the character remains mysterious. This was further intensified with a certain addition to the game in Stardew Valley‘s 1.6 update, which demonstrated that Mr. Qi can also be dangerous.

Haunted Chocolatier’s Version of Joja Could Lean into One Wacky Inspiration

Joja Corporation has not been confirmed for Haunted Chocolatier, but it could lead to some of the game’s wackiest and most creative hijinks.

On Reddit, user thekiwicodex shared a couple of photos of their boyfriend dressed as Mr. Qi for a recent event. The resemblance is excellent, with the cosplayer wearing the sparkly dark-colored shirt and hat, reflective round sunglasses, and the smirk Mr. Qi tends to have. The cosplay seemingly took quite a bit of commitment, as the cosplayer went through the trouble of painting their skin blue to match the original character. The overall look does an excellent job of recreating the mysterious Mr. Qi, especially since they only have a few in-game sprites to base the design off of.

Mr. Qi Cosplay Draws Admiration and Jokes from Community

While the cosplay has received tons of praise from fellow Stardew Valley fans, plenty are also making in-game jokes about it. One asked if he took the stairs, to which the OP responded that “of course” they didn’t, only taking the honorable path via elevators. Another jokingly worried that the cosplayer might have been offering Iridium Snake Milk to other event attendees. Thekiwicodex responded in kind, saying that he didn’t, but he may have offered golden walnuts around. These are two of the items that Mr. Qi deals in, rewarding players who complete the aforementioned Skull Cavern challenge with the milk, and offering the player new challenges once they collect a set amount of Golden Walnuts around Ginger Island.

Stardew Valley cosplay isn’t uncommon, with many fans finding that they bear enough of a resemblance to a character that they end up dressing up as them for a convention or Halloween. With no one having inherently blue skin, though, Mr. Qi may be one of the toughest characters to bring to life via cosplay, if only for the dedication to making one’s skin turn blue – and getting all the blue off afterward.
