It’s a great year to use new power-ups to unlock new areas.

The skill check in question is most likely to occur from a certain boss. Shackled Beast can be a little challenging to fight as it has a massive health pool and deals a ton of damage. Your character will die from two hits from this boss, so extra caution will be required. That said, beating this boss can be pretty easy if you figure out its attack pattern.

How To Defeat The Shackled Beast

Attack

Description

Chain Swing

The Shackled Beast will swing its weapon around itself and may follow up with a thrust. This attack has a large AOE and deals massive damage.

Chain Slam

The boss will slam his weapon on the ground. This attack will cause a large shockwave. The Shackled Beast will use this attack when it is away from you.

Charged Rush

After roaring, the boss will most likely charge toward you and try to impale you with its horn.

Chain Impaler

The Shackled Beast uses this attack upon entering his second phase. Following a roar, it will jump into the air and slam on the ground, resulting in several chains with large AoE coming out of the ground diagonally. This attack will cover the entire boss arena.

Before starting the fight, make sure you are at least level 8, preferably level 10. If you are not, then fighting normal enemies can be helpful. You should also equip Blighted Dice as a relic to gain an additional 15 percent EXP after defeating an enemy.

Once you have explored the Tethered Steeple thoroughly and have reached the “Forest Barrier – Entrance” Respite, you will soon encounter the Shackled Beast. This boss can be troublesome at the start, but it will become easier once you have figured out its attack pattern.

The Shackled Beast will start the fight by jumping toward you. After that, the boss will swing its weapon. This is his most annoying attack, but you can actually take advantage of it to break the boss’s posture. Dodge the first hit and get out of the attack radius to use your ranged skill, Barrage.

Using the Barrage skill will be key here to inflicting both normal and stance damage from a longer range. Also, make sure you utilize the Blazing Fist, as it deals a lot of damage.

If you are struggling with the fight, make sure you have four relic slots. You should fill the slots by equipping Eye of the Ancients, which reduces the cooldown of abilities by 15 percent, and Blighted Dice, which gives 15 percent EXP after killing an enemy. If you don’t have the Eye of the Ancients, then you can use Effigy instead, as it reduces damage taken by 20 percent when your health is below 50 percent.

When the boss has finished attacking, it’s your turn to be on the offensive. After just one combo, the boss will either run away or repeat the same move, so be attentive. If it runs away, a range attack is most likely coming your way, so be ready to dodge it, or you can run toward the boss to do some more damage.

After breaking its posture, don’t get too greedy; it will get up pretty soon and start swinging the chain. If you stay close to the boss a lot, it will roar and force you away. The beast is likely to do a charge attack when it successfully drives you away, but dodging it is pretty simple.

If you want more damage and want to break the enemy’s posture quickly, then you can unlock Vanquisher and Lacerate abilities. However, if you aren’t fond of slow weapons, then you should stick to the Spirit Piercer instead of the Vanquisher, as the former is pretty fast.

So dodge it and do a little more damage, then run away. After you have taken almost 60 percent of its health, the boss will enter phase two and do a slam attack on the ground that will cause several chains to pop out of the ground diagonally, so dodging it may be a little challenging.
