Every so often, Marvel and DC will have some big crossover event that connects most of their respective ongoing comic runs. Marvel had the 1980s and 2015 versions of Secret Wars and the recent Ultimate Invasion event, while DC had Crisis on Infinite Earths and the more recent Absolute Power series. These major crossover events are a great way to tell a big interweaving narrative that includes a bunch of iconic characters, something that Fortnite knows all about.
In the last eight years, Fortnite has become the king of pop-culture crossovers, gradually collecting a wide variety of characters from all corners of the entertainment ecosphere, from anime to movies to TV to music artists to fellow video game franchises. And after years of collecting these characters, Fortnite would be more than capable of delivering one of the biggest crossover events in entertainment history.

A Brief History of Marvel Vs. DC Comics
Marvel and DC have been crossing over with one another since the 1970s, with one of the first collaborations being 1976’s Superman vs The Amazing Spider-Man #1, a one-shot that sees both heroes briefly fighting one another before teaming up to take down Lex Luthor and Dr. Octopus. These crossovers continued steadily right up until the early 2000s, with the four-part Avengers/JLA series from 2003-2004 being the latest major crossover between the two comic juggernauts.
But probably the most famous crossover between the two comic companies is the Marvel Versus DC/DC Versus Marvel series from the 1990s, and the Amalgam universe that resulted from it. In December 1995, DC Versus Marvel Vol 1 hit store shelves. This volume started a short saga that saw two “Brothers” (physical representations of the Marvel and DC universes) attempt to destroy one another, an act that resulted in the two comic universes colliding in spectacular fashion.
In an attempt to preserve their respective universes, the heroes and villains of Marvel and DC were forced to duke it out, with some of the outcomes being determined by fan voting. To try to save the universes, Spectre and the Living Tribunal are forced to merge them together, creating the Amalgam universe, a reality that’s filled with mix-matched heroes like Dark Claw (Batman and Wolverine), Amazon (Storm and Wonder Woman), and Super Soldier (Superman and Captain America).
Over the years, James Gunn has been very candid about his desire to make a Marvel Vs. DC movie one day. But that day might be very far away. The last time Gunn spoke about the potential of a Marvel Vs. DC movie was in April 2023, where he told Empire “I’m certain that’s more likely now that I’m in charge…That’s many years away, though.” This leaves Fortnite with a golden opportunity.
Fortnite Already Has All The Pieces for a Marvel Vs. DC Crossover Event
Marvel and DC gave Fortnite some of its first crossover skins, and the game’s been gradually adding more as the years have gone on. Fortnite has even hosted two full seasons of Marvel-themed content, complete with unique skins, weapons, quests, bosses, and points of interest on the map.
Fortnite has proven time and time again that it’s capable of hosting large-scale crossover events, and it’s the perfect stage for a long-awaited Marvel Vs. DC event. Fortnite‘s latest Marvel-focused season offers an ideal blueprint for the event as well. The map could be filled with both Marvel and DC villain mini-bosses, while heroes from both universes offer players themed weapons and items.
Disney might be a bit reluctant to share the spotlight with the Warner Bros-owned DC, especially after its $1.5 billion investment in Epic Games last February. But both companies are leaving money on the table by not capitalizing on the potential of a Marvel Vs. DC event.
