Stranger Things Season 5 Being Split In Two Would Be The Wrong Decision
The possibility of splitting Stranger Things’s final season in two isn’t the right decision to make for Netflix.
Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard recently spoke to Collider about the show ending. He said, “It’s definitely a long season. Not every episode is like a full-blown movie, but there are definitely some episodes this year that the runtime is definitely film-length. When all that adds up, I guess they are like micro-movies. But there are some episodes that are still 40 minutes, 45 mins.” That is news that will no doubt be met with a positive reaction from fans of the franchise, as it will provide audiences with plenty of time to delve into the characters and storylines. Wolfhard added, “To end a show that people have been watching for a long time, you want every character to have the best kind of ending. And in order to do that, you have to take the time to do it.”
Nothing has been officially confirmed by Netflix at this stage in terms of runtimes, but it appears there is a balance to be struck. Several longer, mini-movie-length episodes of Stranger Things will be fitting for the final season, but it would be tough to have every episode run that long. Audiences want to binge-watch the last season, so having more traditional lengths will keep the majority of people happy.
The upcoming season of the show is something that people have been looking forward to for three years, and that’s going to place lots of pressure on the show. The actors and writers will no doubt have done their best to ensure that things wrap up in the best possible manner. However, the fact that there is going to be a lot of time dedicated to Stranger Things’ ending is a positive sign. People don’t want a rushed finish like the one that Game of Thrones suffered from, and that’s why Wolfhard’s reveal is a good sign.
Ultimately, it appears that Netflix has taken a similar approach to the fourth season of the show when it comes to how long the episodes will last. Having some longer ones will feel special and should be well-suited to important moments in the series that require more time. Meanwhile, keeping to the more traditional 45-minute episodes will also be key in ensuring the flow of the series remains intact. It’s clear that a lot of love and care has been placed into the upcoming series to ensure that Stranger Things sticks the landing, and a longer and more detailed season will certainly help that.
