Hades 2 is still in early access, but the depth of its story so far has many fans invested. Similar to the first game, the sequel follows Hades’ offspring, Melinoe, as she fights to save her family from Chronos’ clutches and also helps Olympus in defeating the Titan of Time’s evil forces. Hades 2 takes the beloved roguelike features to another level, while bringing to life a renewed cast of characters from Greek mythology.

The story of Hades 2 takes place sometime after the first game, so Melinoe encounters many familiar faces, such as the Olympians, Chaos, Hades, and more. However, there are still many characters from the previous title who have yet to make an appearance.

As mentioned, Hades 2‘s main plot is that Melinoe has to rescue her family from imprisonment after Chronos took over the Underworld. In a flashback, players see many familiar characters frozen and trapped inside small box-like chambers, as Chronos takes over the House of Hades. So far, Melinoe is only able to meet a select few from the House of Hades: Skelly and Hypnos, who are both safe in The Crossroads; Cerberus in the Fields of Mourning; and Hades himself, who’s imprisoned in Tartarus.

Zagreus

The protagonist of the first Hades game and Melinoe’s older brother, Zagreus is known for trying to escape the Underworld to find his biological mother, Persephone. While his role in the sequel is still unknown, many fans are hoping to see Zagreus work together with Melinoe in Hades 2.

Nyx

Known as the Primordial Goddess of Night, Nyx is the adoptive mother of Zagreus and the mother of many Hades characters, like Thanatos, Hypnos, and Nemesis. Although she hasn’t shown up in Hades 2, her presence is still felt through conversations with various characters.

Persephone

The Queen of the Underworld is an important figure in Zagreus’ mission to escape the Underworld. After returning to the world above, Persephone lived in solitude while tending to her garden. Zagreus eventually convinces her to return and reclaim her throne as queen, and becomes the bridge to reunite Hades with his family on Olympus. Shortly after the events of Hades, Persephone gives birth to her second child, Melinoe.

Thanatos

Known as Death Incarnate, Thanatos is the twin brother of Hypnos and Zagreus’ very close friend. He’s usually seen gathering souls around the Underworld, and helping Zagreus defeat enemies on certain levels. In Hades 2, Melinoe can use Thanatos’ scythe through the Moonstone Axe’s Aspect of Thanatos.

Hades: The Best Weapon Aspects (& How to Get Them)

Players can obtain various weapon Aspects throughout their Hades playthrough. Here’s how they can get their hands on the best ones.

Megaera

Meg is one-third of the Furies, who are responsible for punishing Hades’ prisoners. Many remember her as the final boss of Tartarus, as she attempts to stop Zagreus from progressing to Asphodel. Throughout Hades, it’s been hinted that Zagreus used to date, and players can rekindle the spark by romancing Megaera in the game.

Dusa

The beloved floating Gorgon head is always seen flying around and cleaning every corner of the House of Hades. Dusa is also known for having a huge crush on Zagreus, and players are able to romance her once they max out their relationship with her.

Sisyphus

Sisyphus is one of Hades’ prisoners in Tartarus, who keeps an optimistic attitude despite pushing a heavy boulder for all eternity. It’s unknown what happened to him after Chronos took over, but players can see Bouldy the Boulder, which is now covered in moss, in Hades 2 when they visit Hades’ domain.

Orpheus and Eurydice

Both Orpheus and Eurydice start out as prisoners of Hades at the beginning of the first game. The former is hired as a court musician in the throne room, while the latter is living somewhere in Asphodel. Although they have a sad backstory in Hades, Zagreus can help reunite Orpheus and Eurydice. Once reunited, Orpheus can be seen hanging out and singing with Eurydice in her humble abode in Asphodel.

Achilles and Patroclus

Another inseparable pair are Achilles and Patroclus, who can also be reunited in Hades. Achilles starts out as one of Zagreus’ trusted trainers, along with Skelly. Meanwhile, Patroclus is a heroic shade living in Elysium, who often reminisces about his friendship with Achilles. Once reunited, Achilles visits Patroclus in Elysium, where they happily talk about their lives as former warriors.
