Elgato has been one of the leading names in content creation for some time now, delivering products that are essential for daily use and others that have proven their utility over time. From the Stream Deck to the Wave mic line, Elgato has you covered regardless of your needs, and, as the company’s popularity has ballooned, they have sought ways to cater to more specific needs. The Elgato Wave Mic Arm Pro sits somewhere in the middle, as arguably the best mic arm the company has to offer, but with some specific setups in mind.

The Elgato Wave Mic Arm Pro is similar to the Mic Arm LP, in that it is a low profile, hinged arm that mounts onto most flat surfaces (desk, table, etc.). While the Elgato Mic Arm hinges in the middle, moving up and down in an angular fashion, the Mic Arm Pro features a straight arm attached to an arm that hinges up. This is useful for those users who want their microphone to fit underneath a monitor or to point up at them from below.

As with any Elgato product, the Mic Arm Pro is expertly crafted, with a nice smooth metal finish. Assembly is quick and easy, requiring minimal effort to mount onto a desk. And some handy features ensure your setup is clean and organized.

Elgato Mic Arm Pro Setup and Design

Mounting the Elgato Wave Mic Arm Pro is as simple as securing a bracket onto a surface. You turn a ratcheting arm (the ratcheting mechanism helps for tight spaces) to loosen the grip and meet the thickness of your desk/table, and then tighten it for a secure hold.

Since this is a low profile mic arm, there is a little over two inches of clearance underneath the arm. Elgato does include a riser to double that clearance, though, for any who might want the mic arm to come out over something lying on their desk like a gaming keyboard or a speaker.

The suspension arm attaches to the base arm and can swivel independently. It can pivot to lay flat on top of the base arm to extend straight out or angle up to be right in front of a seated participant. The suspension arm can’t go completely vertical, but it can get close. You can also angle the mic arm back in on itself if you don’t need to reach as far away from where the Mic Arm Pro is mounted. At full extension, the Elgato Mic Arm Pro can reach about 29 inches.

The Elgato Wave Mic Arm Pro comes with a threaded attachment and adapters to fit any of the popular microphone options on the market. Obviously, you can attach any of Elgato’s Wave Mics or you can put a Shure MV6 microphone or SM7B on it. For cable management, the suspension arm and the base arm both include a channel on their underside with magnetic covers for conveniently tucking a USB or XLR cable out of sight.

Ultimately, your desk setup will determine what Elgato mic arm option works best, but for keeping the mic arm out of a webcam frame and feeding it under a monitor, I have been really impressed with the Mic Arm Pro. It pairs nicely with Corsair’s Platform:6 desk to keep that elegant, high-quality look of my setup.

Build quality is outstanding on the Mic Arm Pro, with a nice brushed metal finish and adjustable tension on the suspension arm. There’s nothing wrong with the Elgato Wave Mic Arm (it was my go-to mic arm for years), but I prefer the lower profile model simply because it is easier to swivel out of the way. You can also customize the look of the Elgato Wave Mic Arm Pro with magnetic hinge covers that add a splash of color to the all-black or all-white arms.

Elgato has built a name for itself on flashy, feature-rich tech, but this is something that is simple in its execution, works incredibly well, and looks nice in any setup. The Elgato Wave Mic Arm Pro is an excellent choice for any microphone setup and well worth the investment.
