Warhorse Studios is diving headfirst into the political landscape of medieval Bohemia in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, with the historical city of Kuttenberg taking center stage. While Kuttenberg isn’t the only location players will visit in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, it is the largest urban area and the very heartbeat of the game’s narrative. As such, players can expect plenty of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2‘s narrative and gameplay to hinge on the town itself.
Game Rant recently had the privilege to interview Warhorse Studios PR manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling about how Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 integrates the historical drama of Kuttenberg into its gameplay. During the interview, Stolz-Zwilling had plenty to say about Kuttenberg’s place in medieval Bohemia, including the role it played in influencing and fueling the conflict stirred up by the desire for wealth and power during that time.

Kuttenberg Is the Stage on Which Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Drama Unfolds
Kuttenberg Was Renowned for Its Silver in Medieval Bohemia
Kuttenberg, or Kutna Hora in Czech, was one of the most important cities in the history of medieval Europe thanks to the wealth found in its silver mines. As one would expect, this wealth naturally brought unprecedented economic and political power to Kuttenberg, but it also turned the city into a climactic battlefield where everyone from the most important to the least fought for dominance.
In its ongoing pursuit of historical authenticity in the Kingdom Come: Deliverance franchise, Warhorse Studios recognized the city’s importance and made its silver-driven economy a central element of the game’s story. When asked about whether any landmarks in Kuttenberg were pivotal during the medieval period, Stolz-Zwilling replied,
Silver and the mines were the easiest answer to the city’s prominence. Everything revolved around silver, and “regular” citizens were, more or less, able to achieve riches that had previously been accessible only to the nobility. Naturally, this led to a kind of clash as the nobility began losing influence, and “regular” people started becoming something like entrepreneurs if the circumstances were right.
This blurring of lines between classes ultimately made for a rather dramatic setting, and one that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has embraced with wide-open arms in its own story. While the presence of the silver mines in Kuttenberg and its surrounding areas benefited the lower classes, it led to increased societal tensions — tensions that players will witness firsthand when exploring Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2‘s historically accurate Kuttenberg.
KCD2’s Kuttenberg Drama Is Heightened by Henry’s Personal Journey
At the time when Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 takes place, Kuttenberg is under the occupation of King Sigismund of Hungary, which effectively adds a layer of political drama to the clash between classes fueled by the silver rush. Additionally, given the narrative of the first Kingdom Come: Deliverance, this will further complicate things for Henry as well, who has it out for Sigismund — the one responsible for the murder of Henry’s parents.
However, this will all take place within the confines of the pre-existing drama provided by Kuttenberg’s history. When asked about Kuttenberg’s role in medieval Bohemia and its economic and political importance, Stolz-Zwilling responded,
In 1403, the time in which Kingdom Come: Deliverance takes place, it was already occupied by the invading King Sigismund of Hungary. Henry will have to navigate the town but will need to stay on his toes. I find it fascinating how the people of Bohemia were confused and divided over the question of which king to support: the rightful but idle one, or the (seemingly) strong but invading one.
There are a lot of layers to consider here, from Kuttenberg’s history as a place of economic growth and political turmoil to Henry’s journey that was sparked by the death of his parents. In light of how realistic Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is primed to look and feel, players will be plunged deep into the roller coaster of Kuttenberg’s politics as they attempt to navigate Henry’s next steps, whether they be in forging new relationships, getting better equipped for the road ahead, or rising to prominence himself.
