On Wednesday February 12, we’ll finally get to see what the future of Overwatch 2 looks like. In the wake of Marvel Rivals’ release, the OG hero shooter has struggled to keep pace with its plucky new competitor. The Cyber DJ Lucio Twitch drop that accompanies the official stream was initially made available to players as a paid cosmetic 24 hours prior to the event’s reveal, meaning those who purchased it have paid for what is soon to be a free skin.

According to Blizzard’s official stream announcement blog, anyone who accrues an hour of watch time on affiliated Twitch creator Overwatch 2 Spotlight watch parties will receive Cyber DJ Lucio for free. The developer confirms that there’s no purchase involved here; all you have to do is hit the required watch time and link your Battle.net account to your Twitch.

The pink recolor of his iconic Graffiti skin arrived in the FPS game‘s shop 24 hours before the Spotlight stream’s announcement and, according to the Overwatch wiki, was priced at 1,900 coins (~$19.99 / £16.79) in the Hero Gallery, or as part of a 2,800 coin bundle (~ $24.98 / £25.18).

As you can imagine, the backlash has been fierce. A quick look at the Overwatch 2 subreddit has players branding Blizzard as “scummy,” demanding refunds. A post on the official forum simply reads “so are we getting a refund for Cyber DJ Lucio now?”, noting that “the Lucio skin was put in the shop a little over 24 hours ago and it has already [been] announced [as] free.”

This is the second time this has happened, with several players pointing to Mercy’s Owl Guardian skin, which was also released as a paid cosmetic before being given away via a Twitch drop later that year. In that case, Blizzard did issue a full refund for the skin.

PCGamesN has attempted to verify all of this, but at the time of writing the skin appears to have been pulled from the store. In this video from ‘Master Ian Gamer,’ however, you can see that the Cyber DJ Lucio and Cyber Fiend Widowmaker skin widget was available on Wednesday January 29. That widget is no longer in the store, as seen in our screenshot below.

PCGamesN has reached out to Blizzard for comment and will update this article if we hear more.
