Ahsoka is a live-action Star Wars series that debuted on Disney+ in 2023. It follows the journey of Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), a former Jedi Palawan of Anakin Skywalker. Some of the key characters in the series aside from Ahsoka are Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizo), Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), and Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi). One of them will reportedly have a more significant role in Season 2.

Marrok is a mysterious warrior whose identity sparks various theories and faces demise in Ahsoka episode 4.

Ezra is one of the most beloved characters in Ahsoka even if he is absent for most of the series. He sacrificed himself to defeat Grand Admiral Thrawn using Purrgil, which dragged them both into deep space. Ezra was left stranded in the distant galaxy of Peridea and had been living in exile for years before he returned and played a major role in the battle against Thrawn. Ezra managed to escape Peridea and return to the New Republic when the series ended. His reappearance could hint that he would play a major role in the second season. According to one report, Ezra could be the “much-needed Jedi hero” following his comeback in the series. “With that in mind, Ezra will likely become the perfect Luke Skywalker replacement in Ahsoka season 2,” ScreenRant reported.

Ezra and Thrawn, who were forced into exile together in Ahsoka, have a complex relationship. Thrawn, who was introduced in Rebels as the Empire’s brilliant military strategist, was assigned to take down the Rebel Alliance on Lothal, Ezra’s home planet. Although Thrawn respects Ezra’s intelligence, he sees the latter as an obstacle to achieving his goal. Meanwhile, Ezra also deems Thrawn a threat to his people. In the Rebels finale, Ezra made a huge sacrifice to defeat Thrawn by using the Purrgil that trapped them in deep space. Since the two already had previous encounters, it just made sense for Ezra to lead the battle against Thrawn, which could potentially pose him as the next Luke Skywalker. “Ezra does seem like the best fit to lead the charge against Thrawn during the New Republic Era, just like Luke Skywalker and his various encounters with Darth Vader during the Galactic Civil War,” the report added.

The idea of Ezra Bridger being the next Luke Skywalker is a controversial possibility. Ezra and Luke have some similarities, but their philosophies are different. For instance, Luke rebuilt the Jedi Order in the New Republic era, and Ezra could do the same. Ezra could be the next Jedi leader, just like Luke was in The Mandalorian. However, when it comes to leadership, the two have a noticeable distinction. Luke sticks to the traditional Jedi teachings, while Ezra practices a more unconventional approach. Considering this, Ezra might use a rebel-style approach if he leads the Jedi Order.

However, one should note that while the two have similarities, Ezra can’t be the next Luke as their storylines are really different. Luke is a central Jedi figure whose journey is rebuilding the Jedi Order. On the other hand, Ezra’s role is more about survival. Ahsoka Season 2 follows the events in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, and it’s likely that Luke will remain the dominant Jedi while Ezra plays a supporting role. Their paths could diverge, and a replacement or substitute would be unnecessary because they could co-exist in the same galaxy.

Ahsoka Season 2 is coming out in late 2025 or early 2026.
