The Elephant Zunesha And The Robot Emet Are His Allies
So far in the series, only two characters have been directly stated to be a part of Joy Boy’s crew. First, One Piece’s massive elephant Zunesha, who wades through the ocean with Zou on his back, was once an ally of Joy Boy that failed him in some way. Second, Joy Boy’s other known ally in the series is Emet, the giant robot from One Piece’s Egghead Island Arc. Although, once again, this robot stated he failed Joy Boy in some way as well.

As for Bink, the figure has only appeared in the iconic One Piece song, “Binks’ Booze,” a jaunty tune that is a favorite of Brook, the Straw Hat musician. In One Piece, this song is often only known by older pirates, such as Shanks and the Red Hair Pirates, who sing it frequently in times of hardship to lift spirits. This One Piece song is ancient enough that it predates even characters like Roger, and the Great Pirate Era itself.

With the song being so incredibly old, it makes sense that the mysterious One Piece character, Binks, is most likely from an ancient era. With mostly older pirates loving the song, and being the only ones who recognize it, it seems like an entity, like the World Government, may have tried to erase this song from history. This would leave only a few characters to be able to pass the song on to future generations, like the true meaning of One Piece’s Will of D.

From here, it would make sense that if a legendary pirate, similar to One Piece’s Joy Boy, were to be removed from history, the character would have to be fairly important in One Piece. It seems possible that Binks, the extremely cheery pirate from a song about having a nice time on the open seas, was the musician on Joy Boy’s crew. Overall, the mood of the song fits perfectly with the tone of a goofy and fun-loving figure like Joy Boy.

If Zunesha represents Joy Boy’s version of the Straw Hat doctor, Chopper, the animal of the crew, and Emet is supposed to represent Joy Boy’s version of Franky, the robot, it makes sense that Binks could have been Joy Boy’s version of Brook, a musician. Additionally, a figure like Binks could have even been the original user of Brook’s Revive-Revive Fruit.

While there isn’t much evidence to support this theory, an ancient figure such as Binks would be a perfect fit for Joy Boy’s crew in One Piece. Although he is a bit more normal than the massive creatures that comprise Joy Boy’s crew so far, between Binks’ ancient notoriety and his potential resemblance to Brook, the happy-go-lucky pirate may have been more than just the subject of a song. However, at the same time, since there is so little evidence, it’s just as likely that Binks himself is a fictional character made up entirely for the song. Either way, it’s interesting to think about how one of One Piece’s most iconic songs fits into the overall world of the story.
