Twitch Has Banned DJ Akademiks

DJ Akademiks has been banned on Twitch, raising concerns among his fanbase. The Twitch ban follows some recent allegations against the streamer involving a minor.

Twitch bans tend to be a bit mysterious, as the company may ban a channel for what it deems an offense, but doesn’t necessarily inform the streamer themselves. In some cases, this can lead to streamers being banned on Twitch for apparently no reason, which can be particularly concerning when the length of the ban is also kept a secret.

Now, fans are concerned that DJ Akademiks may be permanently banned on Twitch. Users noticed that his channel had a message up informing users that the channel was unavailable for violating the site’s community guidelines or terms of service, with no further information. Since then, fans have been more concerned, as some have dug into the code and found evidence that the ban could be indefinite. While some Twitch bans have been overturned long after they were issued, this may mean that DJ Akademiks could be missing from the service for quite some time, at the least. The streamer has said that he’s working with Twitch to “make it right.”

Why Was DJ Akademiks Banned on Twitch?

As noted, there’s no official explanation for the ban from Twitch, but most have concluded that it likely originated from recent events. Prior to the ban, DJ Akademiks received backlash from viewers and other streamers following Akademiks making crude and sexual comments to a 15-year-old streamer called NourGxd. Some of the things DJ Akademiks said reportedly include offering to send strippers to NourGxd’s home, and questioning the 15-year-old on whether he’d be willing to have sex with a fellow streamer that he moderates for, PlaqueBoyMax. The 15-year-old was visibly and verbally uncomfortable with the queries, leading to backlash from PlaqueBoyMax and an eventual apology and promise to do better from DJ Akademiks.

Whether or when DJ Akademiks’ channel on Twitch will be restored remains to be seen. Twitch has taken a strong stance against sexually explicit contact between streamers and underage users in the past, most notably with Dr Disrespect, who received a permanent termination from the platform after allegedly using the private messaging service on Twitch to communicate with a minor. While there are some notable differences between the two scenarios, the choice is ultimately up to Twitch. However, DJ Akademiks also streams on Rumble and YouTube, so his fans can still find and support him on other platforms, even if the Twitch ban isn’t lifted.
