One lucky gamer grabbed the deal of the century this week, picking up an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Super for a huge 60% discount, just as retailers prepare for brand-new RTX 5000 series cards to hit the shelves. Thanks to this incredible Walmart discount, this gamer paid just $350 for the RTX 4070 Super, saving $249 in the process.
It’s rare to see any modern Nvidia GPU with a discount, but a 60% cut in price like this is almost unprecedented. It’s even more surprising to see it happen with an RTX 4070 Super, a card which is only a year old at this point and which is still the best graphics card for the average gamer, at least for the time being.
News of this bargain GPU found its way to the masses via a post on Reddit. Lucky new GPU owner, the_dirtycasual, explained that it wasn’t a hard choice, buying the card “instantly” from the store. According to the buyer, it wasn’t on display, but a “nice employee” happened to mention that they had some extra stock behind the counter in one of the store’s electronics clearance sections.
Luckily for the_dirtycasual, this wasn’t a returned GPU, either. The RTX 4070 was new, completely sealed, with undamaged packaging. Judging from the clearance sticker, it looks like the card was discounted on January 26, meaning the Redditor was exceptionally quick in getting a hold of it before another Walmart shopper could.
For $350, you’d typically be limited to slower GPUs like the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060, a card mostly suited for 1080p gaming, with specs that include 3,072 CUDA cores and 8GB GDDR6 VRAM, and an MSRP of $299. The RTX 4070 Super, meanwhile, has 7,168 CUDA cores and 12GB of GDDR6X VRAM, giving it much more power to handle 1440p gameplay, especially with Nvidia DLSS switched on.
That’s what makes this deal so astonishing. With RTX 4000 series stock dwindling fast, and new RTX 5090 stock looking to be exceptionally hard to come by on launch, the next few months are going to be hard for gamers looking for a new GPU. However, if this entrepreneurial story tells you anything, it’s to ask nicely at your local electronics store, as there might be few hidden gems like this one hiding behind the counter for you to grab yourself.
