The Tomb becomes Black Ops 6 Zombies‘ Season 2 map, where the squad of ex-Requiem take to an ancient dig site in France aided by an amulet to find the Sentinel Artifact. With a few similarities to the beloved COD Zombies map Origins with the return of the Staff of Ice, players will need to know exactly how to craft it if they are going to proceed through The Tomb main easter egg and conclude this main quest.

Surviving the Blood Ritual to acquire the Gold Armor in Black Ops 6 Zombies’ The Tomb is no small task, but this guide should help players achieve it.

The Black Ops 6 Zombies easter eggs have been a challenge to run through, and while The Tomb might be easier in some parts, the final boss fight is no joke, so look below to find out just how to beat The Tomb easter egg and bring home the rewards that await.

Step 1: Acquire the Staff of Ice

How to Build the Ice Staff in The Tomb

To begin the main easter egg in The Tomb, players must first build the Staff of Ice. The steps are fairly straightforward, so to begin, all players need to do is reach Round 8 when the first Shock Mimic spawns. After killing the Shock Mimic, it will drop Archibald’s Monocle, which will be the first part needed for the Staff of Ice.

The second part of the Staff of Ice comes from two puzzles, with the first featuring in the Tombs area found between the Roman Mausoleum and the Shrine of the Hierophants. Specifically, players are looking for the North East wall which has a mural of a bull on it. Players must look around the map in search of glowing purple fire lanterns found on the walls around: the Tombs, Shrine of the Hierophants, Neolithic Catacombs, and the Subterranean Temple. If there is a glowing lantern not within the Tombs opposite the wall with the bull mural, then find and shoot the active ones so that the fire respawns somewhere else at random. Players essentially need to keep shooting these glowing lanterns until one has spawned opposite the bull wall in the Tombs.

After, 8 symbols will appear, and players will need to shoot these symbols in a specific order. They are effectively Roman numerals, but their font looks a tad different, so the image above will provide players with translations of the first symbol to the last symbol:

  • I – 1st symbol
  • II – 2nd symbol
  • III – 3rd symbol
  • IV – 4th symbol
  • V – 5th symbol
  • VI – 6th symbol
  • VII – 7th symbol
  • VIII – 8th symbol

Once all the symbols have been shot in the correct order (not to worry if you misshoot, as you will just have to repeat the last symbol you shot) then a lockdown will begin, and players must fight purple-eyed zombies within the Tombs in short waves, ending with Mimics and Doppelghasts. There are around 4 of these waves, and upon completion, the mural wall will reveal a part of the Staff of Ice, along with a Max Ammo for your troubles.

The step of bringing the purple fire must be repeated, but this time, it’s found in the Neolithic Catacombs, between the Dig Site and the Ossuary. Players will need to get a glowing crystal in the center of this room, which will reveal the Roman numerals puzzle by the Crafting Bench. For this pattern, there are 10 symbols to remember, so look above to see a translation, and below for written help:

  • I – 1st symbol
  • II – 2nd symbol
  • III – 3rd symbol
  • IV – 4th symbol
  • V – 5th symbol
  • VI – 6th symbol
  • VII – 7th symbol
  • VIII – 8th symbol
  • IX – 9th symbol
  • X – 10th symbol

Another lockdown begins, and completing it after the defeat of all enemies will provide players with yet another Max Ammo and the final Staff of Ice part that they need. Now all that’s left to do is head into the Dark Aether Nexus, but do be warned, this next step is pretty lethal, so it’s a good idea to bring armor, Pack-a-Punched weapons, and a Field Upgrade for backup.

Once in the Dark Aether, head to the central mound and interact with the circular slot to place the Staff of Ice. Now, players must defend this point from zombies that will try and attack it for around 3 minutes. It’s unrelenting, but after a certain amount of time has passed, the zombies will all die and the Staff of Ice can be picked up.

Players can use the Ultra GobbleGum, Wonderbar! in order to spin the Mystery Box and get the Staff of Ice straight away to skip this step. However, there is a 50/50 chance they get a Ray Gun instead.

Step 2: Upgrade the Staff of Ice

How to Upgrade the Staff of Ice to the Ull’s Arrow

With the Staff of Ice now acquired, it’s time to head out of the Dark Aether Nexus and look for more of those flaming purple crystals within the underground area of the map. Players need to find 3 that are of reasonable distance from one another, as players must use the Staff of Ice to shoot 3 of them within 10 seconds to cue a voice line from Archibald to indicate their success. Failing this step is practically impossible, so just keep shooting the crystals with a bullet gun until they respawn reasonably close to one another.

After this step, head back into the Dark Aether Nexus and look to the sky, where floating rocks will have a symbol on them. Players will need to check each rock, and each side of the rock for the symbols. Once found, shoot them with the Staff of Ice to get a hitmaker and see the rock float down. Now, it’s important to memorize the 3 symbols found, as once all 3 have been shot, players will need to search the Dark Aether Nexus for one of the portals that have closed off:

  • If the Green Portal has closed off, then exit the Dark Aether Nexus and go to the Oussuary (Speed Cola)
  • If the Blue Portal has closed off, then exit the Dark Aether Nexus and go to the Dig Site (spawn)
  • If the Red Portal has closed off, then exit the Dark Aether Nexus and go to the Subterranean Temple (Quick Revive)
  • If the Yellow Portal has closed off, then exit the Dark Aether Nexus and go to the Shrine of the Hierophants (Stamin-Up)

Once players have exited the Dark Aether Nexus, had to the corresponding closed portal door to find symbols in the portal’s stead. Players will need to remember those 3 symbols they had shot in the Dark Aether Nexus, and then use the Staff of Ice to shoot those identical symbols (the symbols may be inverted, but they are still the same). After shooting the correct symbols (the order doesn’t matter) head through the newly opened portal where you will now be standing on a floating rock within the Dark Aether Nexus. Interact with the purple orb to begin the next step, but be warned, players need to be pretty quick, so bring Pack-a-Punched loot.

For this step, players need to feed the purple orb souls as it travels around the Dark Aether Nexus. The purple orb is extremely impatient, so players need to kill as many zombies as they can, as fast as they can so that the purple orb has enough souls to do a loop around the Dark Aether Nexus and enter the same mound where players built the Staff of Ice. Failing this step just means players need to find a new closed portal door and re-enter the same three symbols.

Once the purple orb has made it to the mound, interact with it to upgrade the Staff of Ice to Ull’s Arrow, which is needed for the next part of the main quest easter egg.

Step 3: Use Sekhmet’s Vigor to Shoot the Vermin Statue & Complete the Trial

With the Staff of Ice upgraded to Ull’s Arrow, players now have the ability with the Left D-Pad button to switch out to Sekhmet’s Vigor. This has 3 bullets, and players will need to use one of them on a stone statue of a vermin in the Dark Aether Nexus, found South from the center, when facing the red portal to the Subterranean Temple. After shooting the statue with Sekhmet’s Vigor, interact with the flaming crystal to pick it up, and now take the blue portal to the Dig Site.

Once at the Dig Site, head to the West wall to interact with the vermin statue here to begin a lockdown. Players now have 60 seconds to kill as many vermin as they can, but this isn’t hard to do as they are relatively weak. After the trial has been completed, pick up the glowing Ambient Energy from the statue. Doing so will spawn zombies, and players must sprint back to the Dark Aether Nexus, but cannot use the portal in the same room as the trial, so head right to the Oussuary for the fastest route. Getting hit 3 times will destroy the Ambient Energy and force players to repeat the trial. Take the Ambient Energy back to the vermin statue in the Dark Aether Nexus and interact with it to complete this step.

Step 4: Use Sekhmet’s Vigor to Shoot the Parasite Statue & Complete the Trial

Use Sekhmet’s Vigor on the stone parasite statue found at the South East area of the center, with the green portal to the right. Pick up the crystal, and now head into the yellow portal to enter the Shrine of the Hierophants, where in the center of the room, lies a parasite statute to interact with.

From here, another trial begins where players must wait for parasites to have a purple glow on their bodies, to then shoot them and run to their corpses to pick up a purple orb. This orb can then be transferred over to the statue. Repeat this step of killing parasites and giving the statue its purple essence until it concludes. Once finished, take the Ambient Energy from the statue back into the Dark Aether Nexus by using the Subterranean Temple portal and place it at the parasite statue.

Step 5: Use Sekhmet’s Vigor to Shoot the Doppelghast Statue & Complete the Trial

The penultimate statue is of a Doppelghast, found in the North West corner of the center. Shooting this statue with Sekhmet’s Vigor will allow players to pick up another crystal that they can then use the green portal to interact with the Doppelghast statue at the Ossuary. Doing so will spawn Doppelghasts that players must kill, but there’s no gimmick to this trial, it’s simply to kill the spawning Doppelghasts, so maybe have a gun with Light Mend.

After the trial concludes, pick up the Ambient Energy and run past Speed Cola to the Subterranean Temple to use the portal here, and then place said Ambient Energy back at the Doppelghast statue in the Dark Aether Nexus.

Step 6: Use Sekhmet’s Vigor to Shoot the Amalgam Statue & Complete the Trial

The final statue is here, but at this point, players might not have any ammunition left in Sekhmet’s Vigor. Not to worry, as players just need to spend 5,000 points while the Sekhmet’s Vigor is equipped at any Ammo Crate to refill it. Now, head to the final statue, which is of an Amalgam, that can be located at the North East corner of the center, with the blue portal on the left.

After picking up the crystal, head into the red portal to the Subterranean Temple, and head down the stairs to Quick Revive’s area at the Deep Excavation, where the final Amalgam statue awaits. The fight here is straightforward, and players just need to fight and kill the Elite Amalgam that has spawned. Ever so often, the Amalgam will become immune with a purple shield. To disable the shield, locate the tethered zombie noted by the purple beam, and kill them to re-enable damage to the Amalgam. After its defeat, pick up the Ambient Energy and run to the right into the Shrine of the Hierophants to access the portal, and place the Ambient Energy at the Amalgam statue in the Dark Aether Nexus.

After completing all four trials, the four purple crystals at the central mound will activate and a beam of purple light will surge through the North East area of the Dark Aether Nexus over to the collapsed bridge. Head over here and activate the pedestal to reforge the bridge and access the boss arena, but players do not need to fight the boss yet if they are not ready.

How to Get Set Up for the Boss Fight

the sentinel artifact arrives at the tomb

The Sentinel Artifact boss fight in The Tomb is not an easy ride, and in fact, many things can easily kill players instantly. It’s vital to be set up properly for this fight, or it’s not going to be possible. Firstly, it’s a good idea to bring all Perks and Tier 3 armor, or Gold Armor if players are brave enough for the blood rituals.

However, Perks and survivability aside, it’s of utmost importance that players bring with them a Tier 3 Pack-a-Punch Assault Rifle or Light Machine Gun, along with its Legendary (orange) rarity. This boss fight is all about DPS, and the Staff of Ice, along with the Ray Gun and other explosive damage weapons, will deal no damage to the boss. It’s also recommended to bring the Light Mend Ammo Mod for quick surges of healing and to weaken the Doppelghasts in the boss fight itself.

Support-wise, the Aether Shroud Field Upgrade is near-vital for this fight, and taking GobbleGums (if you have them) like Kill Joy for Insta-Kill Power-Ups, and Idle Eyes for passive zombies, will become near-essential to survive the multiple phases within. Once players are ready, head into the boss arena to begin.

Step 7: Defeat the Sentinel Artifact

How to Beat The Tomb’s Final Boss

the sentinel artifact attacks

With the trials completed, and all players ready for the boss fight, head into the newly accessible room in the Dark Aether Nexus by crossing the bridge and interacting with the Sentinel Artifact. Doing so will begin the boss fight, where the Sentinel Artifact will rise up and shoot a continuous beam of energy. Getting hit by the beam is pretty lethal, and stuns players, so try to avoid it at all costs. The Sentinel Artifact will shoot its beams in a counter-clockwise fashion, and it will start from the bottom floor, and then head upwards. Essentially:

  • If the Sentinel Artifact is shooting across the top floor, head to the bottom floor.
  • if the Sentinel Artifact is shooting across the bottom floor, head to the top floor.
multiple versions of the sentinel artifact

Players will be unable to damage the Sentinel Artifact while it’s orange, and will have to wait until it’s in a blue, ghostly phase. Each time the Sentinel Artifact turns into this ghostly shape, activate Aether Shroud to allow some peace from the zombies, as this entire damage phase is dependent on players shooting the Sentinel Artifact to break it to deal 10% total damage.

Repeat the survival of the Sentinel Artifact’s attacks and wait for a window of attack opportunity. Each phase will spawn yet another Sentinel Artifact, and there are four of these identical phases. However, the real punishment comes in the fifth and sixth phases.

For the fifth phase, players will no longer be waiting for the Sentinel Artifact to stop its attacks. Instead, a random heavy zombie will be wearing the Sentinel Artifact on its head. Kill that zombie, and when the Sentinel Artifact drops, destroy it to deal a sizable chunk of damage and begin phase six.

the sentinel artifact doppelghast

The sixth phase of the boss fight is the hardest, as the Sentinel Artifact will attach to a Doppelghast. This is truly brutal, so it might be a good idea to use Aether Shroud just to kill the red Elite Doppelghast, as it’s incredibly fast, has a lot of health, and can one-shot players despite having armor and Perks.

Phase seven is identical to five and six where an enemy will have a Sentinel Artifact attached to it and players must destroy the enemy and then the dropped Sentinel Artifact, but this time, it will be a Mimic that holds the power. This trend continues into phase eight, where an Amalgam will have the Sentinel Artifact attached.

For the final phase, players need to watch for the Sentinel Artifacts as they form a semi-circle. Now, players need to rush up the steps to the North East wall where a single Sentinel Artifact will reside. Now is the time to pop Aether Shroud again and deal as much damage as possible, as players only need to shoot this one Sentinel Artifact to beat the boss fight. Failing to do so will kill the entire team.

If players are successful, they will destroy the Sentinel Artifact, and they will be able to head down to the central pillar to interact with the Sentinel Artifact to begin the final cutscene for The Tomb and finish the easter egg.
