Space Marine 2 has already cemented itself as one of the biggest Warhammer videogames ever, but the co-op shooter is keen to keep on evolving, improving, and expanding. Developer Saber Interactive has just dropped some new information on what’s arriving in its next major update, which includes a first look at its brand-new PvP map and the reveal of a new, terrifying Tyranid enemy.
Even with breakout hit Helldivers 2 challenging it last year in the coveted ‘put on a suit of armor and blast some space bugs’ subgenre, Space Marine 2 has stood firm. It’s a brilliant co-op game (and a decent PvP game, too) that looks sensational, has extremely satisfying combat, and offers plenty of different types of content, and as a result players keep flocking to it. Saber has pledged to at least a whole year of additional content with its post-launch roadmap, and now it has shared more details on exactly what will be arriving in Space Marine 2’s first big update of 2025, Patch 6.
For PvE enjoyers, the headline addition is a brand new enemy type that will be joining the Tyranid forces – and it’s one a lot of Warhammer 40k fans have been requesting. The Biovore is coming to Space Marine 2 as an Extremis-tier foe, and this walking cannon will be blasting back at you with its spore mines. The Biovore looks super gnarly, and it’ll be added to all maps that feature Tyranid enemies.
The Battle Barge is also expanding in Patch 6 with a new area called the Datavault. Using a new currency, you’ll be able to unlock information on various aspects of Space Marine 2 and exclusive cosmetics from the Datavault. This currency is earned through completing Ordeals, which are essentially in-game achievements and challenges that span the campaign, PvE, and PvP.
Speaking of PvP, the next addition to the map pool has also been shown off for the first time. Saber had already hinted that it would be a tighter, more enclosed map, and with a name like Tomb, that certainly checks out. Tomb “takes place beneath the surface of Demerium, amongst the haunting structures of a Necron tomb.” While most of the action will take place in tight corridors with lots of “blind spots,” there will be a more open area where gunfights can take place at longer ranges.
Elsewhere in Patch 6, you’ll find some gorgeous new armor sets, a rework for the game’s perks, and the addition of an FOV slider for PC players. Those of you playing on ultrawide monitors are going to have a field day with this. You can take a look at Saber’s full patch breakdown, including screenshots of the new cosmetics and how the game will look with the FOV slider, right here.
Space Marine 2 Patch 6 is set to go live some time in February 2025.
