Sony has changed up a few things at the top, swapping around leadership roles. After the departure of Jim Ryan, Hurmen Hulst and Hideaki Nishino took up the roles of co-CEOs, but this will no longer be the case, as revealed in an announcement by the company.

Nishino has been elevated to the role of sole CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, while Hulst will be in charge of PlayStation Studios. This means that he will be in charge of all first-party studios, and may even look into the merger and acquisitions of new developers. These appointments have also come with a number of other role changes, taking effect as of April 1, 2025.
Sony Sees Major Restructuring Up Top
Apart from the two big changes, President, COO and CFO of Sony Group, Hiroki Totoki, will step down as SIE Chairman and become the President and CEO of Sony Group Corporation. Additionally Lin Tao, the SVP of Finance for Corporate Development and Strategy for SIE will become the chief financial officer of Sony Group Corporation.
Explaining the reason behind these changes, the announcement said, “Nishino will continue to serve as CEO of the Platform Business Group, and as CEO of the Studio Business Group, Hulst will continue to lead the development, publishing, and business operations of SIE’s first party-content. He is also responsible for developing games across many devices including PlayStation consoles and PCs and bringing video game IP to new mediums through PlayStation Productions.”
It seems that Sony wanted to ensure that the business side is separate from the video game development side of things, but since Nishino and Hulst have worked together, each sider will also have an understanding of the other.
“It has been a pleasure working more closely with Hermen and Nishino and gaining insight into the ever-changing, fast-paced world of Sony Interactive Entertainment. As we hand the baton to Nishino and this exceptional leadership team, I am confident that SIE will reach new heights in the days ahead,” said Hiroki Totoki, Chairman, Sony Interactive Entertainment, President, COO and current CFO of Sony Group Corporation.
