There are many different entities in the Japanese Association of Assassins in Sakamoto Days. This includes The Order that Sakamoto and Shin used to be a part of, and often they outsource and hire additional agencies, such as Dondenkai Ltd. Other than just being included in the Japanese Association of Assassins, Dondenkai has become an agency that Sakamoto and his family have to frequently deal with.

Though there isn’t a lot known about where Dondenkai came from and its history in Sakamoto Days, the agency becomes a large part of Sakamoto’s future, alongside Shin, as they fight together to protect his family. The agency has its own powerful assassins that the duo must defeat.

There is no dearth of dangerous assassins in the series, but here’s why Yoichi Nagumo surpasses almost every single one.

Who Are the Dondenkai in Sakamoto Days?

The Agency in the JAA

While not much is known about the early history and creation of Dondenkai Ltd., they become the main group involved in Sakamoto and Shin’s lives. They are also part of the Japanese Association of Assassins, which includes major entities like The Order, which Sakamoto and Shin both used to work for. However, Dondenkai Ltd. is technically an agency rather than a full member of the Japanese Association of Assassins. This means that they are often outsourced and called in to complete client requests by the JAA, and the JAA pays them an agency fee.

There used to be many other agencies that worked with the Japanese Association of Assassins, but the members of Dondenkai, Boiled and Obiguro, got rid of a vast majority of them. The two used to be friends with Sakamoto back in his assassin days at The Order, but Sakamoto kept a distance from the two, which eventually ended their friendship and made them enemies. Both Boiled and Obiguro eventually joined the Dondenkai agency and moved up in the ranks significantly, having killed over 200 people during their jobs. Due to the significant strength of the Dondenkai agency, The Order eventually chooses them to take on the bounty for Sakamoto and Shin, and now even Lu Shaotang. The group takes on a few assassins coming for Sakamoto in the third episode of season 1, “Welcome to Sugar Park”, including Tatsu, who turns out to be a difficult enemy to defeat for Shin.

Sakamoto Days: Why Sakamoto Doesn’t Talk Much

Sakamoto is not an easy-to-read character, which is why fans always wonder why he doesn’t talk much. Well, here’s why.

Dondenkai’s Involvement in Sakamoto’s Retirement

Their Attempt to Take Out the Famous Hitman

Most of what is known about the Dondenkai agency is that they are the new group to take on Sakamoto, Shin, and Lu Shaotang’s bounty. In particular, Sakamoto’s bounty is very high, due to the fact that he unexpectedly left the assassin life and retired from The Order. This action is not allowed in the group, and if any assassin attempts to leave, they will be taken out by The Order. This is most likely due to the fact that these assassins and hitmen hold a lot of secrets about The Order, which they do not want to get out to the general public. For Dondenkai’s first attempt at taking out the famous hitman, they send Tatsu out to take him on, although he easily underestimates Sakamoto and Shin’s abilities.

Sakamoto and his family make a trip to Sugar Park as a family outing for Hana, but due to the high price on Sakamoto’s head, Shin and Lu Shaotang must work to protect him from the oncoming assassins from Dondenkai. With an assassin at practically every turn, the task proves to be quite difficult, but they are able to successfully stop them, especially when Shin finishes off Tatsu at the end of episode 3. Though not much else is currently known about the Dondenkai agency, it’s clear that they will be a large antagonistic group that Sakamoto and his family will have to continue to fend off in upcoming episodes.

Sakamoto Days is available to stream on Netflix.
