If you’ve partaken in any number of battles in Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket over the last few months, you’ll likely have encountered Druddigon. The Dragon-type Pokemon has become the perfect stall in the TCG with its Rough Skin ability, which damages any Pokemon that dares attack it.

“As a whale, this game isn’t getting another dime from me.”

It’s found utility in a vast number of decks, and with Space-Time Smackdown fast approaching, a number of new cards mean that the Cave Pokemon could be about to get a whole lot worse.

With the next expansion, Space-Time Smackdown, Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket is introducing Pokemon Tools. These cards can be attached to your Pokemon in order to give them individual boosts.

The game is set to receive a pair of these tools in the new set, with Giant Cape granting the Pokemon it’s attached to a bonus 20 HP. While that would be annoying on Druddigon, it’s the other tool, Rocky Helmet, which is set to benefit the Dragon-type more.

Rocky Helmet deals an extra 20 damage if the Pokemon that the tool is attached to receives damage from an opposition attack. Fundamentally, this means that if you attack a Druddigon with a Rocky Helmet attached, you’ll be taking 40 damage yourself.

This addition means that Druddigon is going to hold an even more powerful position in the game’s meta, which players are still trying to anticipate ahead of Space-Time Smackdown’s launch.

Thankfully, it seems like the game’s developers anticipated Druddigon getting this unholy buff as there will be a fantastic counter. The new Cyrus card is a simple one, but it’s going to be effective against Druddigon-centric decks.

The supporter will allow you to switch one of your opponent’s damaged benched Pokemon to the active spot, meaning if Druddigon is blocking the way, you can circumnavigate it. Cards like Pidgeot with its Drive Off ability are also effective counters to the Dragon.

Good luck out there.
