Summary
- PlayStation Plus is making changes to the games it offers as part of its Monthly Games and Game Catalog services, which will receive fewer PS4 games starting in 2026.
- PlayStation explains that this change was made due to more PlayStation users upgrading to PS5 and redeeming PS5 freebies.
- PlayStation will still “occasionally” offer up games that can be played on both PS4 and PS5, but it no longer considers PS4 games a “key benefit” of the service.
PlayStation Plus has arguably been one of the better deals in gaming over the years, gifting players a few games a month to justify charging a subscription service to play games online. Unlike Xbox’s similar Games with Gold scheme, PlayStation Plus usually includes top quality titles, with this month’s being Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered, The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Hey, I did say usually.
With February fast-approaching, PlayStation announced the next batch of freebies that will be available to PlayStation Plus users, those being Payday 3, High On Life, and Pac-Man World: Re-Pac. However, along with this announcement, PlayStation also issued a statement regarding upcoming changes to PlayStation Plus, specifically the games that will be offered going forward.
PlayStation Plus Monthly Games To Focus On PS5 Games In 2026
PlayStation explains that starting January 2026, both the Monthly Games and Game Catalog will begin focusing on PS5 titles. It explains that this change is coming because it has seen numerous players switch to playing on PS5 and start redeeming PS5 titles, and says that PlayStation Plus is “evolving with this trend”.

Here’s Some Deep Cuts PlayStation Could Be Reviving
Your favorite classic PlayStation game probably doesn’t count as a “deep cut”.
That means PlayStation Plus will start offering players fewer PS4 games starting next year, as they are no longer considered a “key benefit” of the service. It states that it will still “occasionally” offer games that can be played on both PS4 and PS5, and that already redeemed PS4 games and PS4 games in the Game Catalog library won’t be affected by the changes.
It’s a change that makes a lot of sense, as more people start to make the shift to PS5 as consoles become cheaper, and it’s honestly surprising these changes to PlayStation Plus haven’t come sooner. At least we’re being given plenty of warning that PS4 games are going to be a lot less frequent, so you have 12 months to make the switch if you still want to make the most of your subscription.
